Show off your ship designs 2007!

Ship designs from around the world!

Last year, we had a thread in which people showed off some of the great ship designs they created with Galactic Civilizations II.

With the expansion pack adding so many new components and so much free form support, we'd love to see the cool things players create.

The cool thing in the expansion pack is now you can save your creations as templates and then assign the computer players to make use of those ships in various roles. Combined with the capability of creating your own custom opponents, now you can create your own sci-fi universe within GalCiv without modding.

I am very impressed with the ships I am seeing since DA came out. Seems to be more to choose from in terms of angles and curves, which I really enjoy making mine from. By the way Kenwebb, how long did it take you to do the Battlestar ships? Also you brought out two fleets for Korath and Drenign.

It took me about 12 hours(with TV interruptions ) to make my first new ship in DA, but then... I am a perfectionist in my design so it has to look right to me before I move on to the next part. Doesn't help also that I might have a design in my head, but implementing the picture to the interface of DA isn't one of my better suits.

Will post it soon, when I get some good angles.

Most of the designs take about an hr or less. The hard part is the beginning where I try to find a look and then getting the bases hull started. Once I get those things in place, it all down hill from there.

I am impressd if it only takes you that long to make each one. I took about 5 min to make the skeleton to my first DA ship and then the rest was filling the form out. Of cource I had to familiarize myself with new DA models which also took me awhile. So I figure I can probably get my time down to a few hours once I get back into the swing of making the ships in my head.

Oh and once I take a few screenies I will drop them by at the Shipyards and even sent in the model for others to use if they so like.

By the way also ken do you also use a image editor to put all your angle shots together? and which one?

hello folks here is a tanker/supplyship/destroyer tender (a tender is a ship that carries other ships until they are needed in combat)

well I was about to take pics in Ship Intel mode but the little white line telling me all about my huge hull bothered me. But I guess I have to deal with that.

oh and when I made the ship, I made it on a scenario called Gods of the Universe or something, and when I tried to remake it in my normal game, the templates were not there. Which bring up my other question, how do I present my ship into my normal game, after I have gotten all the techs to build it? I even saved a template with nothing functional on it.

make sure you have the right hull tech and when you saved it did you click the template button

Figure go ahead and upload my last two attempts at making things. The first one was one I did before I got DA and never got around to uploading it here. This one was just me goofing around on a medium hull so I could have something spiffy to look at. Course because of all the candy in the map it looks larger than a base Large ship.

This second one was one I made today while playing with the new goodies in DA. This one is naturally even larger. I could have spent more time and made the tails look smoother but I was done with working on it. Anyways, enjoy.

Its a shame that no one has tried to created the Stargate ships like the Prometheus, Daedlus, The Odessy etc....(hint, hint) That would be sooooo cool.

What do you mean? Right hull Tech? I created the ship in the Gods scenarion, where I start with all techs. And I saved it as a Template. Not a complete idiot here. But what gets me is that when I go to my normal game, I have no templates of the ship built in he scenario. And I have all the techs from Gods except the long Trancendance line. The only thing else that is different is in my Normal game I am using Drengin style ships and in gods I am usuing something else which I forget without looking... could that be it? or is having the Hyperion Shrinker in my normal game screwing with my template from gods?

I started with a huge hull blank...then using Kyro's Hull Mod I just used jewelry. Is it possible that being Drengin in my normal game and another model set in gods is my problem?

the templetes will not show up until you have the right hull tech ie medium large or huge

in the battle of the gods you get all of the hull techs and make sure you have the same hull design when you start the game

and the templetes have no weapons or defenses or engines so the shrink stuff doesn't matter

You'll have to start a new game to get any new ships to show up. If all you used was Kryo's Mod and jewelry, all you should have to do is research huge. However, if you used a base hull from a specific race style, you will need to use that style to get it to show up in game.

I think you answered my question then. I have every tech but the last 2-3 in the transcendence, but in my normal game I took the Drengin appearance, and in gods I stayed with terrans. If thats he problem then I might have to start over, or just remake my design in normal.

it isn't the race but the ship design and as was stated you have to start a new game

Ok i have been playing around with changing the default starbases in the game. Came up with my first attempt at a replacement for the economy starbase.. Please be gentle

The zip with the starbases will be uploaded to the Cybertron Shipyards later if anyone is interested.

OK now I am lost and confused. I created the design, in gods, before I started the normal game I am in now... and I saved the template of the design, without weapons, engines or anything else just blank huge hull before I started the new game I am in now. So wth then?

This same thing happened to me in Dread Lords...made something in gods, started a new game, and then it nevered showed up. I want to get to the bottom of this

have you researched huge hulls in your new game

are you using the same hull style in new game that you used in god's game

a large hull, a medium hull, or a huge hull will not show up as templetes until you reseach those hulls in the game you are playing

1.) Create design.
2.) Make sure you are using the same hull style that was used to make the hull.
3.) Start new game. (If design created in another game, like God Mode.)
4.) Research appropriate hull size tech.
5.) If you have put weapons/defenses/engines on, research appropriate weapons and miniaturization techs.

Alternatively, check to make sure that the template is actually in the template folder. I've had one or two disappear for no apparent reason.
