What is a RIP?

In the past couple of weeks there have been several different people posting many rips. It was not just one or two pieces of work, but all of what they put up. They are relatively new to the site and maybe do not understand what a rip is.
A rip is a piece of work that someone else made that you claim as your own. It doesn't matter if it is modified, changed slightly or not at all. Unless a person has written permission from the original author, you are stealing their work and that is called a RIP.
If anyone who has submitted rips needs help in creating your own work, there are many tutorials here and people willing to help answer questions and get you started.

Hmmm... wondering how they got past moderation because they are quite well noted items to begin with. It is completely obvious that they are rips.
Maybe it's because most of us, mods included, are now blind due to the recent "Operation SmedleyHit" manuevers taking place...

Hmm... I have a question... If someone do a 3D model design from scratch base on, let say the X-wing fighter from Star Wars, do all the works himself/herself. Render it. Make a nice wallpaper out of that. Will that artwork consider to be a rip? Or maybe make a CursorXP out of it... (I think someone did make it long time ago) will his/her work be consider a rip too?

I am asking this, since I am in a middle of a project for cursorXP base on a sword from a movie..... any guidence from gurus here are much appreciated..thanks

That wouldn't be a rip, SonixArt , as you didn't use any of the origional graphics.

Nonsense.. your title says "Super Wizop" and you are endowed with abilities far beyond normal Wizop. Your super-duper pallete vison should clearly see these rips.
The ones I question were\are very very poplular walls and would be noticable by anyone.

The same way a wall got uploaded last week that had Alienware logo in big bold letters and used Alienwares Graphics - that was just too easy - but there it was in the wall section - I left a comment on the wall asking if Alienware had given permission for them to use thier graphics and logo ( we all know Alienware doesnt allow anyone to use their stuff ) and the wall disappeared ...

Now we just have to teach some people what the word "Theft" means.
In the criminal law, theft (also known as stealing) is the illegal taking of another person's property without that person's freely-given consent. As a term, it is used as shorthand for all major crimes against property, encompassing offenses such as burglary, embezzlement, larceny, looting, robbery, trespassing, shoplifting, intrusion, fraud (theft by deception) and sometimes criminal conversion. In some jurisdictions, theft is considered to be synonymous with larceny; in others, theft has replaced larceny.

Someone who carries out an act of or makes a career of theft is known as a "thief".

Clwoods.......Was that a "RIP" from Webster's? Seriously, it is a shame that some folks would take another's efforts and call it their own. It's also sad that it takes a post to explain to some what constitutes "theft". As far as you bringing it up......Ditto Zubaz.

Someone should start a site that posts the pictures of rippers. Like when someone bounces a check and they display the check for all to see.

Guaranteed that would open them up to litigation....slander, libel, defamation, et al.

It is common for people to be wrongly accused....so it's far from a good idea....
