Whats the point of Joining an empire?

I've been seeing different posts about joining empires, but I haven't found anything that really explains what the point is. From what I gather, the combined metaverse score of all the people in an empire gives you an empire score. Is there anything else to it other then that?

Aside from combining all of your scores together empires are there to forster a sence of community between players. In them players can gather around a concept or a theme they like, and discuss their latest game, trade strategies and become friends. Empires can also compete against each other for the top spot in the metaverse. Joining one is not required, but it can be fun and add to the overall experience of the game.

The Galactic Empire is always looking for a few good players if your interested.

If you like a laugh then consider the Hitchhiker's of the Galaxy. It is based off of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy but we would welcome you even if you haven't a clue what that is .

I wonder about the value of joining an Empire as well.

It does not really matter if I'm a jerk (I try not to be) or an idiot (I am). It makes no difference at all when I am playing the game. I will either win or lose on my own merits regardless of my Empire membership.

The community I see here is great but it just does not affect game play.

It's my pleasure kuthkuth. I'm glad that you are considering joining us. Caeili is right though. You need not join an empire if you don't want to. You can be just as much a part of the community without joining one. The choice is yours. Good luck and have fun with GCII.

Don't forget forum bling. If your empire is in or makes it into the top 3, you get an extra medal (#2, below).

Empires are far more significant to multiplayer games. However, most of the empires in multiplayer games are somewhat antisocial, especially to newbies. They always type somthing like 'elite players only wanted' etc etc. That kind of message usually inspires a feeling in me of "well f-ck you then".

One great thing I've noticed about a lot of GC2 empires. They are willing to both welcome and help newer players. A lot of them also are quite friendly and communicative. I think it's a more overall friendly atmosphere than multiplayer games, where some people seem to take it way too seriously. Here we're all against the AI.

Agree!

although you can play against the AI in multiplayer games, there seems to be a bit of a 'stigma' against it. You know, its as if only loosers play against the AI!
