shipclass to xml conversion

I was recently looking through some of my old saved ships from (gasp..) 1.0 and I found one of my favorite cruisers.

I'm asking is there anyway to convert the old shipclass format into the xml format used by the game now. Ive taken a look at the shipclass file and other than being able to make out some scattered components its all gibberish, unlike the clean and streamlined xml.

So is there any way or possibly a utillity program that can do this? Or am I hopeless?

You *may* be able to convert them by building them in a 1.0 game, then saving and loading that save in the latest version. If the load succeeds then you should be able to just go to that design (which is saved within the savegame in a format that has not changed, AFAIK), upgrade and re-save it.

I have the same problem with the shipclass files.

But i alse have the GalCiv2 gold edition that comes with 1.5 preinstalled, so there's no way to install teh 1.0 version.

Does anybody has a solution in this case?

You could email the related files to someone with 1.0 and have them do the above solution and mail them back to you. I don't know if this would work, but perhaps it's worth a try. And if not, blame my hangover.
