First in a decade

Just finished the first CalCiv game since the OS/2 days. Visually a lot has changed. Gameplay wise, some important things have changed. Most importantly, though, it makes one completely forget about time. It's such a rich game. Being at home, and told by the doctor not to move around too much, that's very good.

I was rather surprised by my own defeat. I was fighting a war against the Arceans. I was afraid it wouldn't go well, since I was military weak and my finances blead (fortunately the treasury was very rich.) The tide turned, though, and eventually I was inflicting far more damage than I was suffering. To prevent further bloodsched, I figured I'd give the Arceans a chance to surrender. It took me a few seconds to understand why I had no ships and most of the map was yellow. I had surrendered to them... arrggg!!!

Lol!!! Reminds me of a scene from A Bridge Too Far, when the British paratroopers are holed up in Arnhem.

German officer: "My General says that there is no point in continuing this fight and is willing to discuss terms of surrender."

British major: "Sorry, we don't have the proper facilities to take you all prisoner." [Turns to the man beside him] "Rather gracious of me, don't you think?"
