No Game Sound

I have no sound and in the game. The intro movie plays just fine (with sound) and some of the in-game event movies (such as the first time you explore an anomaly) also play normally, but I have no background music and no sound effects. Whether I install from CD or install the game (plus multimedia, movies, and tutorials) through SDC makes no difference, either way I have no sound. The 'Event Music', 'Music', and 'Sfx' folders have plenty of files in them (all of which I can play using media player software), but still I hear nothing while playing. Does anyone have any idea what's going on?

I also have no tutuorials (even though those are installed as well).

Ummm you should really find an update for this as GCII only works well on new drivers!

I would suggest checking for any newer drivers from creative--Miles Audio may have trouble with older drivers, so it's worth a shot.

Unfortunately, this is the latest driver for my sound card (from Creative's website)...it's an old card. So far, I have not had any sound problems on other games.

Just on the off chance, are any of the sound options disabled or turned all the way down in the Options/Audio screen?
Nope. I have them all checked on with the volume at 80%. I've tried toggling the options and cranking the sound way up, but there just isn't anything playing.

There is a newer driver for the SBLive dated Feb 03 that you may want to try.
Here is the link:

WWW Link

The second one, for the Uni-Pack, is probably the better choice.

Actually, that's the one that I have installed. I assume that the SBLive! driver in the Feb '03 driver package was not updated and is dated Jul '02, while some of the other drivers were probably updated.

Did you use the Patch file or the Uni-Pack file?

This is what it says for the first entry - the Driver Patch...

"This is an update patch, it is not a complete driver installation. You must have the previous LiveDrvPack.exe (SBLW-XPWEB-W3-US), posted July 17,2002. in your system if you wish to use this patch."

Which is why I said I thought it best to use the LiveDrvUni-Pack. The Uni-Pack is a complete updated driver and application installation, and you might get better results with the game by installing it versus the patch file over the older LiveDrvPack installation.

An uninstall, then reinstall of the Soundblaster using the LiveDrvUni-Pack might help.

I tried installing the Uni-Pack first, with no success. So then I tried the patch file on top of the Uni-Pack, also with no success.

At this point, I don't think that it's the driver, unless the game just isn't compatible with my sound card -- but that seems unlikely since it really isn't that complicated to play MP3s.

It may just be a setting, either in the game or the sound control panel. I don't think it is a compatibility issue with the SB Live, since others here have that same card.

But, at any rate, you probably should not install the patch over the full Uni-Pack.
(Not that I don't understand why you tried it, though).

Nothing is muted in the sound control panel?

Post a complete debug.err. The one you posted was not fully into the game.
Start a new game, play a couple turns then exit. Post the debug from that, it may show something.
