resource starbase and mining base

i just thought of this have the resource starbase enhance mining bases if said bases fall within the influence sphere of the resource starbase

otherwise what is the influence sphere of the resource starbase for anyways

The influence area of a resource mining starbase is there because it would otherwise have to be specially coded to remove it, this doesn't seem to be worth the effort.

As for making the influence area of a resource mining starbase enhance mining bases (or anything else for that matter), the effect would be pretty random. IMHO resource mining is sufficiently powerful, I don't think it's necessary to increase it's benefit by enhancing the bonus of something else that just "happened" to be in it's area of influence.

so far i have not seen astroids in the neighber of a resource i just thought it would help or hinder the mining bases

sorry for the misspells

I'll leave that for Wheel, Evil Stormbringer and/or Moosetek, it doesn't really bother me.

I actually always thought there should be something useful that could be done with the influence area of resource starbases, but their random placement kind of defeats the purpose.

Not to usurp your thread, but I always thought it would be useful to be able to "tow" starbases to new positions. I'd assume you'd need a special type of ship that's enabled by some new technology. Also you should only be able to tow a starbase very slowly, say 1 parsec a week, but it would really improve the usefulness of military and influence starbases that in my opinion are not really all that useful. I've personally never built either a military or influence starbase.

If you could tow resource starbases to more useful positions, but it was somehow costly to do this, then I think there could be some useful purpose that could be made of a resource starbases influence area. Anyway, it's just a random thought.

only time i build military base is when i am stuck in a corner

influence bases are useful for a while

Both military bases and influence bases can be useful for a bit, but once the battle moves on or the planets flip, the only useful thing you can do with them is to destroy them. If you could slowly tow them along a gradually advancing (or retreating) front, I'd see much more reason to use them.

A maxed out military starbase network is a great way to secure regions of space. But I don't really use them on the front line, too much chance of losing them.

I have them in areas near key worlds and key assets normally.

I have seen folks do this. I think LogicSequence posted a screenshot of this amazing setup of defensive fleets and starbases. It was a work of art.

But used in this manner the military starbase is pretty much limited to a defensive role. I find that I'm usually taking the battle to the enemy so almost all of the action is in their space. My main need of defense is near my economic starbase arrays but a couple of top line fleets are sufficient.

It takes 28 constructors to build out a single military starbase for just the offensive and defensive ship assist modules. I'm actully trying some out now and am building an array of 16. It'll take 448 constructors to finish this. I have 5 arrays of 16 economic SB's in the same game but at 7 constructors per SB these only needed 560 constructors for 80 SB's, plus I get far more benefit from these than the military SB's. I don't think their worthless, but I don't think the military SB is worth all the work it takes to build one.

But if you could tow them, then that changes the equation. Is this any kind of a possibility or is this one of those things like carriers or orbital bombardment?

damn, can't edit, they're not their, I know.
