Holy Missing Planetary Bonuses Batman!

I can't believe I got onto my second game before I noticed. I don't remember reading that they've been disabled for the moment, but someone please correct me if I'm wrong. If I'm not wrong, then that may be even scarier. Where oh where have my lovely tile improvements gone?

Ive only as of yet seen the morale bonus tiles on any planet i have colonised. Not seen the other improvement tiles either....????

Maybe they became disabled by accident?

They seems quite rare now, in 100 planets I've got 1 100% man. bonus and just a couple research and approval ones.

To some degree i like that they are harder to come across as it makes them all the more of a beneficial thing to find. As they are a bonus it means that finding one will make more of a difference to your race than finding loads as you used to. Maybe Cari and the team decided to tweak the settings to make the bonuses rarer.... Who knows but i like it

A bit rarer would have been nice, but I haven't seen a single one yet! I usually play small/medium galaxies. Maybe the change was meant for bigger galaxies?

I'm probably committed to my first gigantic map now. I did CTRL+N a few times mostly b/c I was just poking around to see what's new & different.

My current map makes me think the bonus tiles must be something like "more random" (forgive the lack of formal math & logic skills). I got through a few sets of about ten worlds with few or no bonuses, but I've also seen a couple of worlds with two or three bonuses.

This was mentioned by Cari in another post like this.
The bonuses are less common.
In that post, forget where, someone else mentioned the bonuses seemed more likely on the specialized planets. It seemed that way to me.
Maybe they will be turned back up later.

I've just been playing for another couple of hours. I really haven't seena single one yet. I've heard of rare, but this is ridiculous. They're extinct!

I hope they keep themas they are, with maybe a small tweak to give us just a few more now and again

We had bonus-overload in the vanilla game.

I believe Cari said they are also less frequent on bigger maps, if you're playing on those.

No, I've played medium, large, and now I'm on medium again. I haven't seen any on my current game, but I haven't explored the whole map yet.

Do they show up if you spy on planets? If so, I'll check each and every planet later and let you know if I find any.

I just hit 700% and 300% manufacturing bonuses on one class nine planet. These are the only bonuses in my entire empire of 39 planets(different game than I posted about above). I don't really have a problem with the way they are now after playing a while with it. Between the bonuses being rarer and the other additions, it gives the game a lot different feel overall in the pacing and gameplay. The galaxy also seems a lot more "lively" with the asteroid bases and such going on. I got to say I like the way this is headed.  Besides that, this beta is quite stable. Aside from one buffer overrun error(posted info elsewhere about it) no issues at all. Some game's release versions aren't near this stable.

Please, stop me from ordering pom-poms in Stardock's colors. This is soooooo true!

W00t! I'm on my 4th game now, and I just found my first planet with tile bonuses (2x +100% Research in case you were wondering). I was beginning to think you guys were just teasing me.

Nope they are out there just very hard to come by now. A much better improvement on the old code!!

Fantastic change Cari and crew!!!!!!

Is anyone seeing signs that the seeding for resource nodes is different (esp. on gigantic maps)?

I did an early exploration phase on several build 1 games, and played a few years into a game in 1 and 1A. In every game, it seems like resources are much less likely to be placed near my home turf.

heh.. funny you mention that, Started a beta 1a game and had a moral resource within site of my homeworld. I couldn't believe the luck. There was several more peppered around not to distant, so it just maybe an unlucky run your going through.

Although you may have gone a little bit too far. The bonuses I saw in my 4th game are the only ones I've seen, and I'm now on game 6. Come on, it's nice that we don't get them on every planet, but now I miss them like crazy.

Can you tell us which file we have to mod so I can put them back in?

@Dethadder: random is as random does, eh? Glad to hear it doesn't seem built into the game.

I have played at least half a dozen games and have yet to see a bonus. I figured they didn't exist on DA at all in the beta.

I vote for a balance between the bonus cornucopia of GCII and the bonus famine of DA, or perhaps making it a game option in setup.

Best suggestion so far. You win a cookie.

It seems to come and go. The first two games I played, I saw NONE. Then my next game had bonuses everywhere. I even found a 7x industry, 7x research, 1x and 3x food, 1x morale world. Unfortunately, had to quit that game due to the bug that meks the Dread Lords show up as a starting race.

I think the change is 100% retarded.

#1 reason: I don't like nerfs :x. (Yes, I suppose you could argue that it isn't a nerf, rather a rebalancing of the 'over-abundant' bonuses--but I would heartily disagree.)

#2 reason: I have a hard enough time finding a corresponding man. + res. planet to put my uber Civ.-wide man. + res. wonders on. If the bonuses are now REDUCED significantly, I'm extremely upset for the simple reason that I love UBER man. + res. planets.

I had this one planet on my FIRST game (huge, tough difficulty, 6-7 opponents) that had OVER 1000 research points...LOLOL. I had a default +53% res. bonus (b/c I was evil to that planet and I inserted pods or something into my population...lol), it was a really large planet, it had one triple bonus research square, and I had like 8 economy starbases fully upgraded boosting it's res output, AND I had the UBER +100 (or 50%..I forgot) planet research Civ-wide bonus thingy. -----------The point is that if that triple research thingy wasn't there, it wouldn't have been as 'awesome'. I love those squares...and anything that nerfs them will suck.

#3 reason: I need those squares when I'm playing against computer opponents, b/c I have planets 'specialize' in different things depending on their bonuses, size, and location. If those bonuses are removed, it takes a lot more 'sizeable' planets to make a uber man. planet or res. planet. WTF. I'm really angry.

#4 reason (and the best): do what one of the MOO's did PLEASE. NERF THE BONUSES ALL YOU WANT, BUT MAKE LIKE 1/4th OF THE PLANETS HAVE SPECIAL USEFUL (unlike certain 'moral' decision game mechanics that randomize a number that is often USELESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!) INNATE BONUSES THAT ARE PLANET WIDE (APPLICABLE TO ALL THE SQUARES).

EXAMPLES:
--Abandoned Uber Intelligent AI generator deep below the surface that loves inventing things: +100% to all research on that planet. RARE
--A superior intelligent strangler inhabits the world and tutors your planet in the ways of Xen. +100% to all research and manufacturing and morale improvements. A required 20+ square planet for this to appear [to make it useful]. VERYVERY RARE.
--Small intelligent Antlike creatures named the Klanktons have appeared from below. They want to help your civilization rule the galaxy. +100% to all manufacturing for this planet. RARE
--A prodigy genius has been discovered in the troop ship. He helps the colony become more productive by using better methods. +25% to all manufacturing for this planet. LESS RARE
--A rare deposit of ore has been discovered that helps fuel energy reactors. +25% to all manufacturing for this planet. LESS RARE
--A small wormhole has opened a unique communication path to another dimension. The species on the other end of the 'line' has phoned you and has started sending you random pictures and diagrams... Some are useful. +25% to all research for this planet. LESS RARE
--The transport's computer has hijacked itself and has become independent of the Civ-Wide computer grid just as the transport landed. It has taken control of the transport's operations and has been kind to the colonists. After offloading everything like it was supposed to do, it has locked itself inside a cave and sometimes sends out detailed information that helps the researchers (it has become obvious that the transport has hacked into the colonist's computer system through a undetectable client-side bug.) +25% to all research for this planet. LESS RARE

ETCETCETC. seriously. Why are the developers NERFING things that help players specialize the planets into certain catagories. That's really stupid and annoying. Look at Civilization I-IV. ... They have coal and diamonds and all kinds of stuff. Add more stuff like that. And don't nerf the really fast ships..WOWOW. How are my planets that are on one side of the galaxy supposed to send JIT support to the other side of the galaxy (huge)? Seriously. . I'm really unhappy about nerfs.

I think the previous post is something of an over-reaction but I do agree that there is a very big reduction in planetary bonus tiles and this does screw up strategies of specialising planets based on those bonuses. Which was probably my favourite part of the game. Bring back the bonuses please devs, thanks.
