DOOMED

DOOMED

Have you notist that if the first fue posts on a thread are
positive the thread is generally successful, but if they are
negative it tends to become a flame war.

I thought this was a product of the ultra strict polices of my
previous forum but to some degree its true hear to.

just a obsevation.

It works in the reply box on these forums for me. It does a little dotted underline for misspelled words.

Strange, it doesn't for me, but it does on other forums...

I use internet explorer , can I still get it ?

It's an alternative web browser to Internet Explorer. You can download it from

WWW Link

Strange, it doesn't for me, but it does on other forums...

Hmm, I surf these forums from a Mac, maybe it doesn't work on Windows.

Edit: Works fine for me in XP with Firefox 2.0 as well. Are you accessing these forums via a different interface than us peasants?

I don't spell check and won't poke fun at people who spell incorrectly,

Of course not. Give me a second, where did i put it... okay, now that I have a pointy stick...

Its much more fun to poke the people who believe in the Queen's English. Not even the Queen speaks the Queen's english.

To switch to a horse of another colour, I am not sure what colors the views of people that feel that spelling is only black and white and not some CLR_GREY. I, am technically trained, haxe often used X to represent color and have read many programs that used A to representit. Anything closer than that should be considered a benefit.

BTW, English purists should study a little chinese, a completely context based language. And don't go hoarse getting on your high horse about how english should/does not require contextual interpretation, cause, uh, it does.

... pointy stick down, me go now.

I don't spell check and won't poke fun at people who spell incorrectly, unless it is a good natured jabbing. I notice I constantly leave entire words out, so I guess I'm no one to make fun of the subject. And since I am always too lazy to spellcheck, it's amazing how I forget the spelling of words like annihilate (sp?). I also never seemed to grasp that children's rhyme of "i before e except after, you know, whatever". I won't even begin on the number of times I have used hear for here, there for their, etc. And the worst part is, I'm not dyslexic.

wow missed that post, that's because you think to fast

As someone from Derbyshire I would like to point out that most people don't stop speaking in there local dialect on the internet
But if I wrote "hast thee gun t marcet unst tandum or oss" not many of you would understand so Queen's english is important.

If you take a good look at the M-O-R-A-L-E thread, you'll find that with only a few exceptions, those with the best diction, spelling and grammar are the least likely to criticize someone else's lack in this area.

too... Couldn't help myself

If you take a good look at the M-O-R-A-L-E thread

I wasn't supposed to laugh at the opening post was I? Sorry, I couldn't help myself. I laughed at the 2700 Morals in a 500 word post too.

I wish the people who thought wheel really thought they should die already would just.... ooops, me go now.

Moosetek and Wheeloffire, I like you both but the spelling hang up that you both share *is* becoming tiresome. I haven't made an explicit count but I've seen Wheel bash Lordpinko on spelling at least 20 times, you'd think by now you'd at least get tired of it.

Is it that you simply don't believe that there are people that struggle with dyslexia, or is it just Lordpinko you don't believe because sometimes his spelling is better than other times?

You're right, and I was out of line.

I'm sorry, Lordpinko.

I'll try to keep myself more in check from now on.

I thought this thread looked familiar. I was beginning to believe I had smoked too much pot(if there is such a thing) in my younger days.

As to the original post:(or ; or ,, I don't know) Yes, 2 consecutive negative posts tend to breed and multiply quickly. It seems to me that pointing this out in the first place is almost inviting controversy, though. Just by reading the initial post I could tell this was going to be a flame war.

Mumble, I struggle to see why you even bother to defend pinko.

sometimes his spelling is better than other times

Yes, and I will right here and now state that I think he's a fraud.

. As you said in another thread, you're used to it

that would be because, as I pointed out when he made his claim of assaulting BNP members, that he's a hypocrite. People who have such a total lack of moral fiber as him generally aren't liked.

He's either a troll, or an fool. Take your pick.

Mumble,

LardPinko is, as Marcathonas pointed out, a fraud. There are very hard working people with dyslexia that spend a LOT of time on various tricks to get things right. Pinko can't defend himself when it's time to throw down so he backs off with this "I'm dyslexic" nonsense.

He knew full well what he was doing when he made the original post. Pinko was asking for a fight. This is the kind of person he is. I gave him an amusing "you're a disgrace" and suddenly I'm picking on the disabled? Nice.

I'll quote Tony Montana again: "You need people like me so you can all point your fingers and say 'Hey, that's the bad guy!'"

20 times harassing this tard? You can't be serious. Citations and links, please.

Mumble, I struggle to see why you even bother to defend pinko.

The whole BNP thing (whatever that is, must be something British) is fine to criticize. On other issues, I don't agree with him more often than I agree with him.

But he has taken a lot of abuse on the spelling thing without complaint. The way I look at it is if he's a fraud as you say then we've cut him a break on his spelling unnecesarily. I don't see this as a big deal. But if he's truly dyslexic and you continue to criticize what is essentially a handicap that reflects badly on you.

There seems to be no shortage of arguably legitimate issues for you to criticize him on that you could at least give him the benefit of the doubt on this one. Actually, as far as I've noticed, you (Marcathonas) haven't really been harping on the spelling issue, that's been mostly others.

What is this BNP thing anyway?

20 times harassing this tard?

OK. So I'm guessing. Seemed like 20 to me anyway. Maybe I exaggerated for effect. As I said to Marcathonas anything else is fair game. But please, for me, in this one single case, let the spelling slide.

Wheel,

I must acknowledge that the M-O-R-A-L-E thread represents some of your finest work. Calling lordpinko a disgrace to the Queen's English is mud slinging grounded in empirical evidence that I feel folks would be hard pressed to deny. Especially since I seem to notice you calling him on it at least once in every thread, but that is a badge of honor he can choose or not choose to where. (picture me wearing mine with pride right now)

This last post just isn't up to snuff. It conjures up Tony Montana's image, but one rather later in the film I fear.

He knew full well what he was doing when he made the original post.

It looks that way to me, too. I don't engage in bashing others much, but the original post seems too well designed to be anything but trolling. He knew someone would come back to bust his chops.

Yes he was asking for a fight, feel free to give it to him, just not about spelling. Actually, your response in this thread wasn't that bad. In fact most of the criticism of his spelling came before the claim of dyslexia.

I'm sure you're creative enough that you can find many other aspects of his post to criticize other than spelling, that's all I'm asking.

ShuShu, the scene in the restaurant where Montana gets drunk and starts yelling at the patrons is the second best part of the film. The best is when he yells at the TV from his jacuzzi and gets excited at a clip of flamingos while calling them pelicans.

Brilliant movie.

I actually want to quote a couple lines before the quoted remark but I'll definitely get hit with the banstick if I do.

Lard Pinko, nice analogy about local British dialects. Absolutely nobody on this forum has any point of reference to understand or disprove your statement. Even your fellow subjects can't help you because the dialects aren't typically written. Given that, I'd venture to say that if your fellow dysdialectics _did_ have a written form of what passes for communication, you'd still be a fraktard among your peers.

Mumble: I'm autistic, and used to be totally socially introverted and unable to communicate with others.

Know what I did? I worked on it, now I have absolutely no problems. So his "oh noes i are disabeld" stuff doesn't cut it. I also know dyslexic people who make the effort to spell if not perfectly, then at least somewhat legibly.

The BNP (British Nationalist Party) are a sorry excuse for a political party who get away with their blatant racism and violence under the cover of being "Pro British".

And pinko, for burning down their HQ and fighting them on the street, is a hypocrite. Fight violence with more violence, because that's always been known to solve the worlds problems.

I don't like hypocrisy, as you may have gleaned.

Again, asking for a *rolls eyes* emote please.

Personally, I think the War of Grammaria is wearing rather thin.

If you have difficulty with English, there are plenty of tools available that can help you use better grammar and spelling in your posts. I suggest you avail yourself of them if possible--a well-written and thought out post is far more likely to draw positive, constructive responses than one that isn't.

If you have difficulty with those who have difficulty with English (you know who you are), cut it out. Nobody likes being lectured, so unless someone specifically asks you if their English is correct, just stick to the topic at hand. Amateur grammarians are just going to antagonize those they attempt to correct, and antagonizing of other users is not something I tolerate for long.

Marc, I'm austistic too, maybe you should follow my belifs (insted of bashing them into the ground) and come out of exile a better person. Accept your disablity for what it is, I am the weakness therefore I am the strengh.

Now hold on a sec, Kryo, that isn't true. I like to be lectured. Unless, of course, your staement IS true, that nobody likes to be lectured, in which case you're calling me nobody. (and for those who can't figure it out) J/K.

No, because you see I don't like you. It's not a disability unless you view it as one.

Your beliefs are fundamentally flawed and while I still have a modicum of self respect I wouldn't follow them or any like them.

Exile? I've been fine for years. People don't ever recognise I'm autistic unless a) I tell them or B) They happen to notice the fact my brain makes calculations roughly as fast and accurate as someone inputting things into a calculator.

So yeah, I have no problem. Yet I still don't like you. Because you're irritating. Mmmk?

I have never posted to one of these useless threads before, but this is getting ridiculous. When people come here and see the most popular threads are nothing more than flame wars, it really looks bad on this entire community. This used to be a friendly, helpful group of people. Now it's been reduced to this. What happened to actually helping people who ask, instead of berating them because of the way they asked. This is the first forum I had taken an active part in for any period of time due to the community and helpfulness of everyone. If I were to have come here and seen the recent posts filled with flame wars when I started, I probably wouldn't still be around. I think it really makes new people not want to stick around when they ask a question, only to be attacked about their spelling. I have never gotten on to anyone about their method of expression. It's pretty simple. If I can't understand what their trying to say I don't respond. Why waste your own, as well as everyone else's time by pointing out something everyone else can already see.

heh.. never ranted on a forum before.I feel better

Just Stop! I agree with you DethAdder, this has gotten way out of hand. I've been working hard to get my friends to try out this game, and have been telling them what a wonderful group of people this community is. Please stop all this nonsense!
The community is great and extremely helpful and quick to help. I see where you're coming from, but (perhaps I miscounted) I see only 3 flame threads, one of them locked. The rest really are nice discussion and/or helping folks, especially new ones, solve any issues or answer questions. And I never even see anyone bash new folks for even the questions that seem perhaps slightly ridiculous and easy to figure out on one's own. Perhaps this is more serious than I thought, my take on this thread, for example, is that it has actually simmered down from where it was.
