Survey Ships Questions

Now, about this "Flagship"...

Couple quick questions born of my new-player ignorance:

1) The Flagship I start with can explore anomalies. "Scouts" can not. The only "Survey" module I can find is part of Sensor IV research. Is there any way to build survey ships early in the game, to better exploit anomalies?

2) My Flagship, from collecting so many anomalies (see #1) is heavily-hulled and experienced. Also, it's made of tissue paper, slow, and unarmed. Is there any way to upgrade it? What class is it?

1) "Sensor I" gives you the Survey Module. Get it ASAP and build 3-4 survey ships and set them on "auto-survey".

2)Upgrade it when you get Medium Hulls.

As custom race you can take Xeno Engineering, Stellar Cartography, and Sensors as starting Techs -- you can design a survey ship on first turn then, albiet just 1 speed. Buy 3 of em while you are researching to impulse engines and then upgrade em all at once ( buy over time is prob the best option ).

And personally don't auto-survey, move em manually and outmanuver the AI to the anomalies and scout out for planets while your at it. One of the things in GC2 that I really enjoy doing.

Upgrade em to a fast armed scout when all the anomalies are gone and give em HPs when you get large hull tech -- cargo hulls can be upgraded to large hulls.

Yep, the Flagship can be upgraded to a Medium Hulled ship.
