Great!! Maybe someone can now tell me how to get Bootskin to work on my computer, instead of crashing it. I've tried all 3 versions to no avail. I have a 2yr old HP pavilion running WIN XP SP2. I really miss being able to change my startup, shutdown and wait screens. Thought Bootskin was the answer, but every time I installed it it would work for 1 or 2 bootups, then I'd get the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH. Can anyone pls help me here, tell me what to do to get Bootskin to work on my 'puter?? Anyone??

Athlon 64 X2 4400+, Asus A8N-SLi ACPI Bios revision 1014, 2x GeForce 7600GT, 2Gb DDR-SDRAM
No version of bootskin will work, the pc just fails to boot and it's a real 'performance' getting it back working. So for now, I'm not touching bootskin with a barge-pole

Would be nice to have it working...

Bootskin is unsupported by Stardock. There have been whispers that it might be updated for Vista but I wouldn't hold my breath. https://forums.wincustomize.com/?ForumID=153&AID=119736

If bootskin is not working for you you can try different versions. It really depends on your BIOS. I think htat's why it was dropped, too much support for not a enough money.

You can get earlier versions on this page: https://www.stardock.com/products/bootskin/download.asp

Uninstall, reboot, install alternate version, reboot. Repeat until you find one that works or all that fail.

Window Boot screen is very separate from the BIOS screen. Inorder to make changes to the BIOS splash screen you have to flash it. Something which isn't an everything to do. Some BIOS's have utilites to help you change it, but you have to check with the BIOS manufacturer.

Now,... regarding this Bootskin+ we heard rumors of earlier. I know the developer got caught up by MS, but is there they chance you'd let us play around with it anyway? Or at least the ODNT subscribers? Or is it simply too unstable?

Bootskin totally corrupts my startup, I get a blue screen with a bunch of complicated error instructions. I have uninstalled it, but would like to start using it again. Any suggestions?

Oddly enough, I can get all the versions to work, but any bootscreen I create myself screws up. The image appears, but the colors are totally incorrect.

I create an image in photoshop, and save it as a .jpg file. Then I load it up in Skinstudio 5 and use the bootscreen creator. This dithers the colors down to 4 bit (or whatever it's meant to be). Then I get everything set up.

If I click the "preview" button to see how it *should* look, it looks great. So I apply the bootscreen, and reboot.

Only to find the colors are entirly wrong, and it just looks like crap. I have no idea what I am doing wrong .

I've even tried just a black and white image (not made with SS5; made with irfanview), and its brown and a dull white color >.
Any help?

If you have a progress image it too has to be 4 bit....[that means 16 colours] but the palette MUST...I REPEAT MUST be identical to the 'main' image....just not 16 colours also and a different 'set' of colours.

The palettes MUST be the same.

Did I mention they must be the same?...

Ohhh this is probably my problem then lol. My background image has 16 colors, while my progress bar has 6 lol. They are the same colors, just different shades. Its all red, black, and white... but everything shows up green .

Thanks for the tip Jafo, I'll go change the palettes and hope it works

Hi,
Im having problems with my bootskin beucase whenever I click apply on one of the loader screens, it says next time i restart it'll be that. But when I x out and open it up again, the default template is the Windows normal one. Its kinda like I save the load up screen to what I want, then when I click out it just goes back to default. Any suggestions?

This was in antoher thread and we kind of need some help!

I have the same problem... Tried everything I know but cant seem to make it work

Im out of ideas... please lend us a hand over here!!!

I dont know about what sort of config that Neuteboom has but I have the latest ZoneAlarm firewall (wich I set-up to not interfere with bootskin and logonstudio) and have no probs running logonstudio with the nVidia skin (but cant seem to be able to add more skins then this )

HELP IS SURELY APRECIATED GUYS... TNKS

If you're running a logon via an nvidia theme - it's self contained.

you will need to download logon studio as a separate program to add other logons.

Bootskin does not work for everybody.
I've tried all 3 = no go

Running v1.05a, it says, and reinstalled it six mos. ago, from Cnet, I think. Works every time... Running XP SP2, ATI Radeon X700 256MB video card, 1.8GB Intel P4 proc, Adaware plus on boot and McAfee Security Center suite on boot. kol's Vista silver, Serenity bottscreen by Curranistan and Universality logon by Garxgoki. Try uninstall/reinstall, maybe. It would be nice to be able to update it as there's many good skins out there for it.

Then something )probably bios) is set different than it was when it was working.

you should have said that
this gives the impression you were either using an theme from nvidia or the one that comes with one of their cards:

have no probs running logonstudio with the nVidia skin (but cant seem to be able to add more skins then this )

nVida has some themes that use Theme Manager OEM that utilizes logonstudio but only for their theme(s)

that's okay, I'll get over it

Bios American Megatrends v 080012 15Nov05
CPU AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3200+ 2009 MHz (Emachine T6216)
Video: NVIDIA GeForce 6100 Bios Date: 1 Nov 2005 128 MB video RAM

All three versions froze my machine in a blue screen boot up loop. Had to reboot into
Safe Mode, delete Bootskin and remove vidstub.sys from system32 folder.
I will learn to live with the MS boot screen!
