Starting tech points

Hard-coded limit or moddable?

By default, the custom race gets 200 tech points they can use to select their original techs. Is this limit moddable or is it hard-coded? I know you can go beyond the limit by editing it manually, but I'm curious if it's something that can be worked-around in game.

Bumpity JIC--I hate when I post these things early in the morning because then I wonder if anyone really browses to see them later.

So what you're wanting is an in-game option to set the limit of how many techs the custom race can start the game with?

Not exactly. What I'm wanting is a permanent change to how many points the custom race creator can spend on techs. The change can be done out-of-game, but it should stay all the time.

For example, I'd like the ability to change a file (mod style) and allow the creator of a race select... 1500 points of abilities, allowing them more tech choices without having to manually mod the file themselves.

Edit: Why did I put "credits" for "techs"? Changed.

I am interested in this as well. I get smashed on harder levels, but if I could start with a few more med-level techs I could at least hold my own at the start without cheat codes. Currently, I edit the XML for my race abilities and give myself big boosts to econ and such, but then the whole rest of the game becomes too easy. A few more starting techs of some significance could help me out.

When u say starting techs do u mean when u choose some extra abilities before starting the game? if u r i've made it so each one of the abilities cost me only 1 point. Does anyone know how i can make it so i can get more points? 10 points isn't enough.

You can not increase the number of available points. It is hard coded.

You can, however, edit your .raceconfig file (found in My Documents\Games\GalCiv2) and add whatever you like. And as long as the ability values do not match a preset value, they will not be counted against your original 10 points in the setup screen.

And you can add techs as well, in that file.

Alright Moose. Like I said, I knew that one could be done, but I was hoping the 200 point number wasn't hard-coded. Since it is, I'll just let it be. Thanks for the info.
