Stardock Forums Updated

Good things are happening

https://forums.stardock.com

The Stardock Forums have just received a complete redesign.  If you are not reading this post via forums.stardock.com then click here to view the new layout.

We have listened to the voices of our users and customers and have taken great strides to improve our forums.  For those of you who are used to other bulletin board systems you will find that our new layout is modeled a little more closely to other forum software programs available which will make navigation more similar.  For those who are used to the Stardock Forums you will notice the main view has changed where we are now showing the difference Categories available and in order to view posts you need to click on the corresponding category.

Many other things have changed as well and we have many more changes to come.  And in short time we will also be migrating our other forums (WinCustomize, GalCiv2, TotalGaming, etc) to this design as well.

Please navigate around and let us know what you think.  Enjoy!

Too many versions of firefox and opera.  One works one way, and not the other.  Should be fixed shortly.

Looks clean. Gonna take a while to get used to.

Like that 'who's on' down at the bottom of the forum home page - much easier to tell who's with Stardock. Does it also show the various Admin/Mods when they're on?

whoops, still seeing the old forum...checking out the new forum link now

T-MAN,

For the past week, I have not been able to use the smiley button to successfully assign a smiley in comments.

I can access the list when clicking on the button, but clicking a smiley results in a slight drop of the whole page (sort of like hitting "Enter" button at the bottom of a text box) - but no smiley symbol appears.

I can assign a smiley by typing the symbols.

Running IE6 (6.0.2900.2180_xpsp_sp2) on XP Pro w/SP2 and all MS security updates.

Sorry about this, but here's another browser, T-man. Safari. On the mac, the graphics and text don't line up.

IE6 same version number as Corky.

No smilie when clicked.

But I can right click one, open properties, copy the address and the use the 'insert image option'. Have to do the same with smileyxtra using FF.

Quote function with FF 1.5.0.4 not working

Font box, Size box and all the text while in the add a reply box is underlined

Smiley worked with FF

SmileyXtra now seems to be working

having everything underlined makes me think I'm typing one long link.

No underlines when typing using advanced mode

checking color options

Quote not working for me either. >_< I'm not seeing the "who's on" thing. Heh, apparently the formatting isn't working either, and not taking me to my post after posting. o_O

FF smiley's working per Bichur. And the IU is quite fabulous!!  I like the who's on at the bottom of the page like everyone else!!

It's certanly getting there, T-man!!

Hmmm ...seems that if I navigate anywhere away from the page your link brings up, T-man ...I get logged out, and I'm unable to login again.

I'm only able to stay logged in at  the main page, and only if I access it directly from WinCustomize via the link in this thread. Typing in the url on a fresh tab [newest I.E. beta] and then attempting to log in does no good.

I don't have this problem on any other sites, and rarely run into problems with Stardock sites

I've cleared cache/killed cookies, added as trusted, checked my ZA settings ...all produced no result.

Any suggestions? ...though it's not a matter of dire importance, it'd be nice to be able to log in there.

btw ...it looks great!

*edit ...Found a workaround for the time being. At the end of the url string where it finishes with "forumid=274&aid=122798&c=1" [for example]....if I change that "=1" to "=0" ...it logs me in.

Is it something my end causing this?

As much as we would like to, we're not coding for IE7 Beta (anything) at the moment. As with any other beta software, the inner workings are completely open to change - at any time - without any notice. If we attempted to write for IE7 while it was in beta (or any beta browser for that matter) we could potentially be changing our code for every version.

Wreckless Eric : can you reproduce this on any other browser?

We're also doing our best to make nice with all the different versions of Firefox and Opera out there. However, I would like to encourage everyone to download the latest versions of each, respectively, when you're prompted. If you're running a version of either of those browsers and it doesnt prompt you to download (if you havent disabled the feature) then you're running an incredibly out of date version and should consider updating

When it comes to Safari, I'm afraid that Safari compatibility is quite low on the priority list at the moment. Safari accounts for ~1% of our traffic and at the moment there are some bigger fish to fry, if you like fish. Bigger sheep to shear?

Wreckless Eric : I'm not aware of any link on forums.stardock.com that will direct you to a site address with c=1 in the link. How did you arrive at that? Can you please list the steps?

I am shocked!! I can't believe there aren't more Mac users going to Wincustomize or Stardock . . don't they make customizing software for . . uh . . Windows.

I really didn't think Safari would be very high on  your to do list for the forums! Just thought I'd give you a heads up on what I saw from my mac.

Thanks Andrew for responding to these questions.

***I just tried to post this by going directly to the forum. I get this error message everytime I hit "post comment":
You Cannot Leave the Comments Field Blank. Please Fill in the TextArea before submitting.

In the post just above, I type that this is happening on my pc, but for some reason it's the only line not showing up in the post!!

To All : When reporting an issue with these new forums it is very important to let us know what browser, browser version and page address/url you are using. Please don't forget this. That information will allow us to fix the problem a lot faster and ensure it doesnt resurface. Just to reiterate, at this time we will not be addressing Safari issues. If anyone using Safari would like, you can email me at andrew at stardock dot com. I will archive the issue and will address it as there is time.

47songs : I'll need to know what browser, browser version and page address/url you are using when you see that error, please.
