Thanks for that, ID....though I'm just a bit hesitant about installing it. The IE 7 beta 2 works perfectly in Vista but kept encountering problems and crashing in XP, even when I wasn't doing anything with it (just sitting there on the screen), and I had to roll back to IE 6.

However, when it did work, I found IE 7 to be a nicer version to use, so I'll definitely be giving it another go....just hope it doesn't cause the same BSOD's its predecessor did.

Working fine here. No BSODs yet   I like the font it uses, so easy to read

Yeah, ClearType is nice, I always enable it systemwide through Display->Appearance->Effects..

I just got Beta 3, but I dont see much difference from Beta 2...

Beta 3 has put the email button option (customize toolbar) and has fixed an issue with not being able to view some forums.

Thanks, ID.

Beta 3 is much faster, especially the phishing filter function.

It does have some issues with scripting some sites (parts of Adobe for one), but this may be due to the sites not meeting the IE7 requirements (to be expected with beta releases and timing).

The final release should be a huge improvement over IE6, and tabbed browsing is always a good thing.

I have found a couple little items that disturb me about it.

1. If you only have 1 tab open you can't close that tab without either opening a new tab, or closing the browser.
2. If I have logged in to WC with firefox, closed my browser without logging out and try to log in to WC with IE7 I get an error.
Opera demonstrates the same behavior in this one.

Other than that, I think IE7 is going to seriously hurt some of the competition.

Meowy, in Maxthon and Opera you can close one open tab to blank page.

I just don't see how that is useful.

Well so far so good....have installed IE 7 beta 3 and its not displaying the undesirable characterisics of the previous beta. At first start it encountered a problem and had to close, but since giving it permission to access the net in my firewall it runs without issue and is a much nicer browser than IE6

Any idea what's improved over Beta 2?

Is it worth the effort of removing 2 to install 3?...

effort what effort ?? gives jafo a clip on back of head *pokes tongue*

Hey Jafo, from MS

what's new in Beta 3

Internet Explorer 7 Beta 3 is now available for download and includes improvements in reliability, compatibility, user features, and security. Although Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 was layout complete, based on our customers’ feedback, we’ve made some additional changes to the look and feel of the browser. Beta 3 allows users to add the e-mail button back to the toolbar, enables users to reorder the tabs by dragging them to the left or right, and enables horizontal scrolling while zooming.

To improve the RSS experience, Internet Explorer 7 now allows users to update all their RSS feeds automatically. In addition, the user has more control in marking their RSS feeds as "READ."

Beta 2 testing has helped us improve compatibility with websites and web applications in Beta 3. Internet Explorer 7 reliability has improved in Beta 3 as several layout-rendering bugs have been fixed as well.

In addition, Beta 3 contains all the security fixes addressed in the June Internet Explorer Security Bulletin MS06-021.

No 'Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close' with beta 3....no BSOD's of beta 2....but then, you're a self confessed/professed expert of the BSOD, with or without IE7 beta 2.

Is it worth the effort of removing 2 to install 3?..

Yes, it is much faster (page loads/startup) and more reliable (performance/security) than its predecessors (providing you don't BSOD with something else)

I don't like it that much.

It's a rip-off of firefox and it's just not worth my time.

Looks good though, and i need it to download updates.

Oh here we go.. t'was just a matter of time till a ff troll had to make his witty remarks.
Ok.. I'll bite..
Tell us oh grand and wise one, what are the specific items that are

I installed it mainly for FTP purposes, I still use Firefox.

I still use firefox as well for my primary browser. I have grown used to it and am quite fond of it so far.
When IE7 comes to full release I will use them both as I have several work related sites that just don't fare well , if at all under firefox.

I do too as I've become rather accustomed to is over the last couple of years, but the IE7 beta 3 is a marked improvement over IE6 in all facets and I well imagine the full release will give other browsers quite a shake in the popularity stakes, given MS' response to concerns over security, tabbed browsing, etc.

Have you tried using the IE rendering engine in Firefox? I registered some software and the website didn't like Firefox too much, but switching to the IE view resolved that issue. Don't know if it works for all problem sites in Firefox, though.....

The extension is called IE Tab, you can get it here: http://ietab.mozdev.org/

I've had no problems with it have even done the whole MS Update thing using it.

Oops, forgot to mention that....I even did the 'validation' thing using IE Tab in FF, and I can also surf, download from the MS site without problems...sure is a handy tool.
