Mods - Besides TV Show (We all love StarTrek, Babylon 5, StarWars, and Stargate...but...)

Okay, so just curious, what other mods are actually wanted by this communitee besides those based off of the above TV show mods? I'm highly anticpating and offering to particapate in any of them, but I also want to see some that are not related to any of them...I'm curious to see if anyone has any ideas of something original...I'm really hoping that DM04 has a great slow-start mod coming out, or that suggestions are accepted...and I'm creating some of my own, but I'm curious to see what others are looking for in a mod, so if you have anything you'd like to see, I'd really like to see you post it here, even if its been mentioned before!

I would LOVE to see a X3: Reunion mod...

Though I highly doubt that'll happen, though it'll be amazingly awesome if done right.

Okay, hate to admit it because there seems to be some Starforce anger on this forum (which if what is said is true that they are saying that Stardock and Galcvi2 are promoting piracy of their own game is completly understandable( "they" being someone actually associated with starforce) ...

I have actually looked into X3 because I haven't played it or any of its prequals....what is it about actually and how does it differ? Or would you suggest I actually go and purchase it? (please don't delete this mods! I swear my loyalty to stardock!

X3 I have. Gets boring after awhile and really needs optimaztion. The intial release was literally un-playable, and even after the release of the last patch (1.4 I bleieve) that optimized thigns a bit and it could run better. Ore Belt, Kingdoms End, and a few other sectors are a no combat zone unless you have some high end equipment on your rig. Turns into a slide show of your doom otherwise. Oh, and the lack of a non-mod multiple missle launching system and the craptacular M6 class have me irked a little. Anyhow, the Split have some awesome ships that would look neat in this game.

I've seen this mention elsewhere on the forum, but Homeworld would be another prime canidate. Maybe even the Terran Wraith and Battlecruiser and the Protoss scout from starcraft might work. Carrier would be hard to do "correctly."

Starcraft would be kinda cool. Not enough races for a TC though.

How about StarFox? I had alot of fun playing StarFox 64, there were alot of different ships on that.

Hmm..... How about a Mod were all the races are turned into the Minor races? Like a battle of the little people.

Or a Mod where each race got its own style.

I like the mods that have been done so far (B5, Star Trek, Star Wars), but I am more of an anime fan now adays.

One of the best space settings is Legend of the Galactic Heroes. There are of course only two sides both human, but the three classes of ships Battleship, Cruiser, and Destroyer have numerous varients. The only real problem I see is that carrier options don't exist in GC2.

The other mod I would like to see would be a Robotech mod. with the various ships and battle mechs.

Course if thats to hard there is Star Blazers or Battleship Yamoto as its original title was named.

Well in all fairness, we dont even have a full star wars, star trek, BattleStar Galactica, or major scifi converstions yet. Perhaps when they are done then we can work on other mods.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Star Control 1-2 mod. A lot of races in there, with tremendous personality, and even though there are only a few dozen different ships in the game, the ships are quite unique.

Wow, now that is a blast from the past. I haven't played Star Frontiers in ... well, in a long time. Over 20 years. I still have a boxed set or two sitting around, right next to my original D&D and Powers & Perils boxed sets. If they were in decent shape, they might even be collectors items. As it is, they are ... well used.

I'm working on a custom mod of my own design. Very slow, modified tech, heavily modified logistics system, expanded tech tree... reworked and rewrote all the tech descriptions to fit the 'theme' I have in mind. It's not based on any show though, it's actually from notes left over from an old project of mine, so I even have a backstory to work from. Not sure how I'm going to implement that in game though.. still brainstorming. After creating a few test versions to try ideas out I fleshed out some pretty ambitious ideas.. all in good time. The idea is to make things slightly more difficult in some respects and spread out how often new generations of tech come out.

I'd like to redo the races.. or at least some of them, dont know yet. CariElf's documentation on mods is excellent and I highly recommend anyone considering creating a mod check them out, very clearly written. It depends a lot on how difficult to test balance issues with anything I adjust racial wise as to whether I'll tackle this one right away.

I agree with some of the above comments..

I would like to see some mods, by the better modders, for these. Hulls, races, whatever...

i) The Red Dwarf ship &/or Starbug - I love it, because it's funny... Or even the blue midget ship.

ii) Warhammer 40K ships, such as those in Battlefleet Gothic, although if anyone had the time and talent to do the design anywhere close to the detail that would be need to show the 'High Gothic' arches etc etc etc then they should get a job with a game developers art department.

Other suggestions would be ships from the Tau, Kroot Warsphere, Orks (which are terrible) or, as I said somewhere else, the Tyranids. I like the idea of the Tyranids, because they come is so many different styles.

You get Snail Shell designs, large, pulsating lumpy designs, sleek needle like designs, anything... Just think of the ribbing, dripping bits etc in the tunnels of the Alien series of films.

iii) For those who like to design ships that look like transformers etc - how about some Mech Warrior style hulls..

The Tau would make a good race, similar to the Altarians, but with a good Weapon skill, defence skill etc...

I'm currently working on techs. I've added engines, speed increment techs, miniaturization and cultural techs. I'm also working on some invasion tactics and a I have made a couple of planetary Improvements.

If anyone knows how I can put them up without having to add the pictures, then I would be glad to copy the techs into notepad files, each to its own one, so you can download it and then copy and paste them into the relevent files.

I'm planning on making a total mod on all alien races. I have had this idea of a story line in my head of a human galactic civilization. As it turns out, man is indead alone in our own galaxy (as we know of since we've only settled 1/4 of the galaxy. A human galactic empire has just collapsed after the royal family has been assassinated. Add to that, an electronic virus is spreading throughout the systems either destroying the machines, collapsing the galactic civilization communication network. Hyperdrive has also been affected by the virus. Every world is cut off from one another. Thousand of worlds collapse and only a few planets survived and even in those planets, the population dropped dramatically. Man had to rely on hunting and gathering.

30,000 years later, humanity is beginning to rebuild. Taking to space and some to the stars. But on this one particular planet, a planet called Earth, hyperdrive is rediscovered. But unknown to all humanity, a race of machines once created by humans, surviving the virus through self reprogramming, is also taking to space. Once loyal to men, now they blame humanity for the collapse and countless death. They have a new mission, to preserve most life and ensure the collapse never happens again. Like a Gardener, they will kill the weeds, the weed called mankind.

Well, i'm not really a great modder. I can come up with the story and even some of the graphics, but if anyone wanna help out. Let me know.

currently Im running into some werid problems with the AI, the AI isnt colonizing much. The slow-things seems to work, it tames me about 3 ingame years to get like 10 colonies, but at that point, I still have more then all the other 9 civs together. Cant say if this is beause of the mod, or 1.2. Any difficutly at and below crippling the AI is just poor, and when I play masochistic, the AI do realy well at "spreading out", but also seems to have a quite high research bonus.

A Spelljammer-based mod would be interesting, using the "space" enhancements to AD&D, and the AD&D races and ships (elves, humand, halflings, dwarves, orcs, goblins). It would take a lot of creativity.
