Mods - Besides TV Show (We all love StarTrek, Babylon 5, StarWars, and Stargate...but...)

Okay, so just curious, what other mods are actually wanted by this communitee besides those based off of the above TV show mods? I'm highly anticpating and offering to particapate in any of them, but I also want to see some that are not related to any of them...I'm curious to see if anyone has any ideas of something original...I'm really hoping that DM04 has a great slow-start mod coming out, or that suggestions are accepted...and I'm creating some of my own, but I'm curious to see what others are looking for in a mod, so if you have anything you'd like to see, I'd really like to see you post it here, even if its been mentioned before!

I would love to see some Dr Who style races, Darleks, Cybermen, etc Maybe I am just showing my age!

Perhaps (DW premiered in 1963), perhaps not (it's recently been revived and new episodes are being made now). Twenty-six old and two new seasons provide plenty of material. The Daleks and Cybermen would have to be included, of course. Possibly the Time Lords (they're gone in the new series, though), and probably some form of humans (the new series has the 'Fourth Great and Bountiful Human Empire', which I doubt is going to fit in the civilization-name box, but I'm sure there have been quite a few others). And it's certainly the only series I've ever seen with a ship that looks like a phone booth (I'm American, so I don't quite know exactly what police boxes are, but it does have a phone on the outside).

Wow, great to see this thread still going I started it long before I started work on the Star Trek Mod.

Just so everyone is aware, we are planning to mod at least two more TV shows once we are ready to take a break from the star trek mod.

The two front runners are:

Star Gate and Battle Star Galactica

Both suggested by a fellow modder-friend Han891, who's already started work on some ships.

We'd also like to work on a Star Wars Vs Star Trek mod. But not quite ready to do that until both teams are have enough material prepared. (sorry Frogboy, believe me nothing more I'd like to do then be praised be the Galactic Civilization King himself (or queeen Carielf )

We think in the Star Wars Vs Star Trek mod, the minor races would be ships and races from Star Gate and Battle Star

Just some thoughts that our team have talked about.

If this freespace mod is ever released there will be lots of sweet Battlestar Galactica models out there.

I'd love to see a robotech, honorverse or battletech mod. Dune wouldn't be too bad, all the races could just be houses. I would love to see a Warhammer 40k mod. Granted diplomacy in this universe really doesn't fit, but maybe you could expand on it and make a "super" race thats nailing everyone to the wall so everybody decides to ally for a while or at least talk to each other. Battletech's books focus mainly on ground combat, but how do those mechs get there? They just dont fly across the galaxy on there own! This would be a must have mod in my opinion. And robotech as well, such a rich universe it seems like a shame nobody else is voting for this. Halo wouldn't be too bad either, the only problem is the lack of races, just like Star craft. Of course, you can always make up your own to add to the game. Starship troopers....if your basing it off the movies I'd say ok, but like the guy above me said, off the book no. I dont belive they even mentioned ship combat in the book (of course this was like 5 years ago that I read it) and even in the movies, it didnt seem like the bugs had anything in space so....Maybe use there ships and basic stuff into a different mod? I know this is probably something people are going to flame but....what about a Predator vs Aliens? I know the lack of races and everything, but you could always make different familys of preds, different factions of humans and different hives of aliens. Probably not alot of content out there for space battles or anything, but I'm sure you could create some great looking things that would fit in.

Edit: One thing I forgot to mention...what about wing commander?
Edit again: Oh, and one more thing, wouldn't mind seeing a mod of some kind that uses a WW2 class weapon system as in 18, 16, 15, 14 inch guns, different things like that.

How about a Space Above and Beyond Mod?

A Robotech would be cool. I would play only that mod. Too bad I am not a computer guy or I would try to to make one.

Battlestar Galatica: TOS, The new Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers, And Dr. Who would all make for some interesting mods I might be interested in playing.
How about Bucky O'Hare & The Toad Wars?
A new ship model that has the Jupiter 2 design from the Lost In Space movie would be nice, and to go along with it you could toss in the new Robot & the Original Robot models from that franchise.
What about a Duck Dogers mod?
Daffy in a space suit, Porky in half of one, Marvin the Martion, and a whole slew of the Looney Tunes monstersall vying for control of the galaxy? Cant go to far wrong with that so long as you make it some sort of a "humerous" mod.
Another one I'd love to see would be one that has renders of Spaceman Spiff and his ship (from the greatest comic strip that ever was but is no more "Calvin & Hobbes".)

A Macross, Battletech, Mobile Suit Gundam, or Star Blazers mod could work great with this game if it were in the right programmer's / modder's hands.

There's TONS of both great and not so great stuff out there that COULD be modded for this game that hasn't been yet really. You just have to sift around in asll those dusty old memory banks a bit. Ohhh yeah, and you'd have to convince the right person or group of people that an enormous undertakig like modding a game just to make it look and play a tiny bit cooler would be worth thier time.

Hmmm. That would be a hard mod to do! Particularly since Trek out-techs Wars by a lot, I'm not sure there's a way to make it a fair fight without compromising canon in this format. Though if you really do want to try tackling something that complex, this site: http://www.st-v-sw.net/STSWhi2.html has some very good comparisons. The author clearly has too much time on his hands, but he uses math and screenshots to show a canon comparison between the two.

As for the original topic...I've bitten off a big chunk I'm having trouble chewing, but will be worthwhile for myself. A few years ago I created an original scifi universe which I ended up using for a roleplay. I decided to work on my own mod to convert the game to that universe.

http://sf.admiraljoe.com/ This website has some info, and some crude drawings. As I work on material for the mod, I'm going to stick it onto the site as well. As can be seen from my poor depictions of the few ships that I decided to draw, the models aren't going to look so great. But since it's for me, I'm not too concerned about that.

I really don't want to start anything, but the opinions of someone who claims that the Galactic Empire controls only a tiny fraction of the galaxy despite massive evidence to the contrary (the name, for example) with such flimsy supporting evidence have to be t least a little suspect, right?

It might be nice to see a mod based on Roger Corman's "Battle Beyond the Stars", which has several alien races featured. Any scifi movie where the spaceship's breasts are almost as big as Sybil Danning's has at least two things going for it.

Erm...where's he claim that?

http://www.st-v-sw.net/STSWcompare.html#Planets Here's a page where he estimates them to have about a million star systems under control. His wording is a bit confusing, but if you read his writeup about the Federation too, he's using "member" to refer to those planets which are akin to states with full governance as opposed to the interstellar equivalent of cities.

Of course, "Galactic Empire" doesn't necessarily imply control of a galaxy, it just indicates that the empire spans the galaxy in its scope. Though nit-picky stuff like that aside, comparing what the technologies are (fusion power in Star Wars, antimatter in Star Trek, Trek's ability to have combat at FTL speeds and SW's inability to do so, ST's use of weapons more advanced than lasers, ST's sensors that can see multiple light years out compared to Star Wars visual weapons targeting, etc), it's clear that SW's only advantage is numbers.

or Star Frontiers? mmmmm... dralasites!

Ahhhh, someone else who is familiar with the Star Frontiers game!
Like I posted a while ago... the Micronauts. Mod the Micronauts baby, yeah!

Hey, does anybody know if you can mod the deep space background? If so, you potentially could create a mod that had nothing to do with space. Like, you could have island wars with stars being the central volcano or something (lame idea but I'm just trying to get you guys out of the box). I really would like to see somebody create a mod with some real creativity. The game mechanics are really the only thing that's hard coded....

Just leave "John Boy Walton" out of it, please, for the love of God.

Sorry, I've tried this, and it's essentially hardcoded. You can mod the nebulae etc but not the black colour. I had an idea for a mod based on a fight for a desert planet, but this stopped me.

Under the "Territory" section of his overview. His reasoning is fairly flimsy (interpretations of quotes from novelizations, some confusion about the location of Kamino). He also considers the Expanded Universe to not only be completely non-canon, but non-applicable, which is not true. There is a hierarchy of Star Wars canon, and the EU is high enough on the hierarchy to be admissable in Star Trek vs. Star Wars debate.

However, Trek versus Wars discussions always end badly, so I suggest we end this one now and go back to the thread's original topic.

Or muppets....PIGS IIIIN SPAAAAAAAAAACE!

OMFG! I'm laughing so hard I'm crying! Imagine the races - the Grouches, the Elmos, etc.

The Elmonian battlecruiser slowly moved into orbit above the planet Kermit. Suddenly a swarm of "Henson" class fighters closed to attack, peppering the huge red Elmonian vessel with projectiles from their ribbit drivers. The battlecruiser charged its puppet rays and fired...

Imagine the possibilities!
