Military starbase fighter defense assist not working?

I just played a game where I attacked two planets within range of my military starbase. I had a fleet of three gun fighters and one laser fighter vs their defenders.

Their defenders had shields, which kept getting hit whenever my laser fighter fired.

But my guys didn't seem to have any defenses against the defender's attack, even though the starbase should have given them +1 defense in all categories.

Anyone have similar issues with attack/defense bonuses from starbases?

you need to have at least one defensive component installed on your fighters for the starbase ship defense assist to deploy.

Your ships have to at least have 1 point in whatever category the starbase will aid them on.The ships cannot have o shields and get an asist from a starbase.Same with all categories.

Did your ships have any defenses at all? the operative word here is 'assist', if you don't have any defenses, you can't get any assistance.

I don't know if you can have one type of defense on your ships and then get *all* the types from a SB assist or not.

It's like weapons, where if you have one all the assits work.

So if a ship has one shield, and the base gives +3 +3 +3

Your fighter will have 4 shields, 3 armour and 3 point defence.

well actually, so long as the ship can "Defend" it gains assitance, applies with attack too.

All ships with at least one defensive component in the starbases influence will get the bonus. Its worthwile to research part of the defensive tech tree to get a small defensive module and then cram it on all combat ships.

Are you sure about that? My understanding was if you had shields on your ship then you got shield assist but not point defence and armour. (ie the fighter in your example would have 4 shields, 0 armour and 0 point defence) I thought that in order to have your defences boosted you need at least one opint in the specific defence that is being assisted.

Can anyone clear this confusion up?

The way the assists work is like this:

For Attack Assist,
You need at least one weapon on your ship. It doesn't matter what category it is. You will receive an assist in whatever category the module assists.

Likewise, for Defense Assist,
You need at least one defense on your ship. It doesn't matter what category it is . You will receive an assist in whatever category the module assists.

For example:

Ship A :
Attack Beam: 0 Mass: 2 Missile: 2
Defense Shield: 0 Armor: 1 Pt Defense: 0

Ship B :
Attack Beam: 0 Mass: 0 Missile: 2
Defense Shield: 0 Armor: 0 Pt Defense: 0

Ship C :
Attack Beam: 0 Mass: 0 Missile: 0
Defense Shield: 0 Armor: 0 Pt Defense: 0

Let's say you have a starbase that has an attack assist (+3 every category) and defense assist (+3 every category)
Each of the above ships is within range of this starbase and no other starbase.

Ship A will receive both attack and defense assists for a total of:
Ship A (With Attack and Defense Assist):
Attack Beam: 3 Mass: 5 Missile: 5
Defense Shield: 3 Armor: 4 Pt Defense: 3

Ship B will receive only the attack assist (because it has no defense) for a total of:
Ship B :
Attack Beam: 3 Mass: 3 Missile: 5
Defense Shield: 0 Armor: 0 Pt Defense: 0

Ship C will not receive any assists because it has neither an attack nor a defense, so it's stats remain the same.

If you are curious as to how the assists are working on your ships, you can hover the mouse over the stats in the context window and a tooltip will appear that shows how much of the value comes from the base value and how much is coming from a starbase.

I am truly amazed at the support the players get from Stardock. We ask for someone to clear something up, and Stardock jumps in does it.

Thanks for the great support
