bugged default colony design

all the default colony ships have TWO colony pods instead of one. Eeach colony pod supposedly allows for 500m citizens... two should allow for a whole 1000m. While it would have been much more useful to have a single colony pod and more engines the main problem is that the colony pods do NOT stack and the default colony ship only allows for 500m citizens, while wasting much space and cost on the extra pod!

its not a bug, since its a core ship they added that just to make it look nice. so it looks pretty and symmetical it was never intended to be used. its been mentioned by a dev somewhere on here once, just dont remember where

so colony pods don't stack? didn't know that. I'll have to check that out in the demo (getting the game in a few weeks on my B-Day)

when you custom build ships, they do stack, and you're right, that core colony ship does NOT stack, I've never noticed that before.

The one thing I don't like with core designs is that if you upgrade them, while choosing to keep their jewelry, none of original functional parts is seen on the ship, since everything you see on core designs, even supposed functional parts are jewelry while functional parts are invisible.

So if I make upgraded colony ship and remove old pod, when you add pod again you'll see 3 colony pods.

Same for freighters of constructors.
And that is the part that annoys me the most, since that how AI ships look like.

Every time I see AI constructor or freighter with misplaced cargo and constructor pods, at righ flank, with only jewelry duplicate being at right place, I'm disgusted, it just looks ugly.

the original colony ship is designed as if it really has 2 colony pods, it only has a base speed of 1 and normal range.

Original Colony Design:
1 colony pod
1 hyperdrive (11 space each)
3 basic support (4 space each)
and 7 empty space.

A better but not ideal design (add another support to use up that empty space):
1 colony pod
1 hyperdrive
4 basic support
3 empty space

Ideal design (take one support off and add a hyperdrive):
1 colony pod
2 hyperdrive
2 basic support
no empty space

taltamir, please stop bumping very old threads needlessly.

I am not bumping old threats needlessly, I am bumping BUG REPORTS that have NOT been resolved. Just because it's old doesn't mean it's a resolved bug. If I accidently bumped a FIXED bug then by all means let me know and ill take it off my watch list.

This one is the LEAST important "bug" I found, so small that its barely a bug but is still of some significance. The default colony ship comes with a bunch of empty space and very poor configuration, that makes the AI weaker compared to a player. And players start with sub par initial colony ships

The AI designs its own colony ships, just like you should (and all good players do). So this is a non-issue, and certainly not a bug of any sort. All of the core designs are very basic and exist more to demonstrate ship design than to actually be useful, and as was noted originally, the appearance of the designs is not particularly dependant on the actual components included (you can do this yourself by manually altering the two files generated each time you design a ship).

Every NEW player uses the basic designs, at least until they get better tech. Besides the core designs are meant to be PRETTY as you said, so why make them absolutely useless so that they will NEVER EVER be seen? in fact I have to go and obsolute every single core ship on every single game cause each one is absolutely and utterly useless, and I scrap or upgrade every single starting ship because those are useless too (since they are core design). Whats the point of those designs then? They are not just "simplistic" they are EMPTY. they are a pretty ship with a BUNCH of empty space going to waste. At least outfit a ship with a full compartment of items. The example I gave with the colony ship is just ONE example. And I gave two much better designs for that, both of which are as simple as filling up that empty space with useful stuff. Not groundbreaking ideas, just equipping the ships with equipment, its not a novel idea or anything groundbreaking.

It is not going to be changed.
