Question regarding the Game AI

I was just curious - does anyone know how the AI handles negotiations with each other? For example, is there just some fixed amount that you can sell each tech for or, is that amount context dependant?

For example if I am selling say Massive Scale building, will the AI always pay X bc's, or will an AI that has a massive advantage over expect to pay less using an arbitration scheme of some sort?

If it's just fixed, I think it /might/ be interesting to include an arbitration type scheme for selling techs and/or other goods.

Thanks for any responses I get.

I am pretty sure that Diplomacy skill and bonuses affect all your trades (in fact, the Dip screen hints at this when you start lining up trades). Probably the same for AI civs, but they probably don't concentrate on it like we might.

I would bet that the AI takes current relationships into account as well, e.g. Close relations will net you a better deal than Neutral.

It probably (should) takes into account relative strengths as well, but that could swing either way.

Alignment likely plays a role.

On another note, in my current 1.1 game, several AI civs have refused to trade (even low level) weapons techs with me, even for trades in kind. As a test, I selected one of the AIs weapons tech, offered 3 of my weap techs and some cash to sweeten the deal. And this was with a civ that was on Friendly terms. So the AI upgrades for 1.1 are definitely having some effect.
