Ships and custom races

Hello. I'd like to report something I consider to be a very serious bug.

I had several ships saved, and a few custom Races, from the Retail version of Galactic Civilizations II. I then installed the Galciv II version 1.1 update, and when it was finished, all of my ships and races no longer existed. In addition, the game could not load my savegames from before the update. (I'm assuming this is because the game could no longer find the race or ship configuration files)

This appears to have been caused by your installer overwriting the folders the ships and races were stored in.

I later recovered the Custom Races and some of the ships by using the System restore function in Windows XP.

I then attempted to play the game, but it locked up while loading a savegame from before the 1.1 update.

I apologize for not having the debug log, but I have un-installed the game and am proceeding with a re-install. (this time I made copies of all my ships and races into a separate folder.)

The reason I consider this "bug" (not certain it is a bug, certainly an oversight though) as a seriouds problem, is because you obviously wanted people to create and save their own ship designs.
Therefore, you did not actually want to erase whatever work they'd put into it.

If you ask, I will allso add a hardware and software profile of my computer, though I do not believe it neccesary.

Before I forget, other than that one problem, you did a wonderfull job with the Version 1.1 update. I especially like the part rotation functions of the new Shipyard, and the animated path-to-destination/ autopilot-path.

It's not a bug. It was explained that this happens, and actually was fixed by 1.0x, so save games, ships etc carry over.

It was just that they had made the oversight in 1.0. However it isn't a bug.

My apologies to Marcathonas, but I did not refer to you answering my questions. I was asking for a member of the Stardock Dev-team to look over the information given, and attempt to fix the update installer so it does not delete all the work a player put into the game prior to updating to version 1.1 direct from 1.0

As to what you did say, Marcathonas, I only had the absolute most basic version of Galactic Civilizations II retail.
I then installed the 1.1 update. Not the 1.0-anyletter bonus pack.

They screwed up the Version 1.1 Total Game update.

Sorry to have sounded so rude, but know what you are speaking of before you speak.

Yes, I do know what I am speaking of. You, obviously, don't. And I was merely telling you it WAS fixed. However, because of the way the files carried over, 1.0 updates are lost forever. It can't be changed. 1.0x is NOT a bonus pack, merely the second update, by when it was fixed. You aren't getting those saves back.

Sorry for sounding unsympathetic, but I am.

Ah. then I apologize for being bitchy.

Oh, and I did get the stuff back. System Restore is a wonderfull tool. Just not sure if I'll even be able to use most of it.

What had really pissed me off was the loss of the Saved Civs. But, I got them back too.

Heck, I even had one that had -3 leftover ability points, and several abilities that I shouldn't have had.
