complaint: color of pirate ships vs drengin ships

It is impossible for me to locate the pirate ships on the map because of race ships with a similar color. I have to manually click through all of the red ships to find it. If possible, please find some way to distinctly identify the pirates?

Ship-color in general is kind of screwed. It's nearly impossible to choose one for your own race that doesn't closely match one that the AI uses, and of course the game doesn't show you the other colors while you're choosing one. That being said, with 9 races plus minors and things like pirates, it's pretty difficult to choose a set of colors that varies widely...

Hmmm, yet the manual claims that when choosing a custom color, at least for your Race, that there are 16.8 million colors to choose from. I've never played around with this yet but what's the deal? Is there 16.8 million colors to choose from for a Race but only 16 for Ships or something?

yeah there is 256x256x256 colors but of course they didnt add an colorn pattern but 3 diffrent sliders ...

Seriously, if you can't get a unique colour from 256x256x256, then nothing will help you

I use white for my custom race's colour, no race in the game uses white.

I have tried so many different colours, but there is always one race whose colour ends up being very similar, probably because they started with primary and secondary colours then move on to tertiary, so you are looking for a "gap" more than anything else. The way the minimap changes in brightness from time to time and the stupid "shine" streak across the top doesn't help either.

Oh. I was the Terrans. My color was... what... blue?

The problem is I couldn't separate the pirates from the Drengin ships on the map. I can see changing my color to which would help make me look different than the other similarly colored players. But the problem is the pirates always seem to be red, and every time they've shown up, I've had a red race, and hell if I could visually find the pirates on a huge map.

PS: Could I have used the ship find feature to find them?

I was jokingly replying to spathi.

Pirates have no planets. They're just a big, powerful fleet. You'll know them because suddenly the most beautiful, powerful, expensive fleet in your navy just got wiped.

I think you mean "couldn't tell Pirates from Drath", not Drengin. Drath are orange like the pirates. Drengin are red.
