Just bought and downloaded the game and was really looking forward to a treat, however I cannot get the game to even start, I can get past the intro, but as soon as I click on the start new game, or tutorial buttons the initial screen pops up then theres a high pitched beep and my whole pc freezes. I've read through the stickies on common faults, but as far as I can tell theres nothing wrong with my setup, I don't have a problem with other games either.

I noticed this:

Current Display Mode: 1152 x 864 (32 bit) (70Hz)

Debug Message: Game Resolution: 1024 x 768
Debug Message: Running fullscreen.

did yo try to switch the game to window-mode? (edit the prefs.ini in your my documents\my game\galciv2-folder and set fullscreen=1 to fullscreen=0) maybe the game has problems, but I guess this doesn't help because the resize already happens when you enter the mainscreen.

...or you can just try matching your game resolution to your desktop resolution. This can also be edited in your prefs.ini file (use wordpad or notepad to open and edit it).

Thanks for the help, I am making some progress with the game in window-mode, the problem does seem to be with the graphics side of things (an ATI Radeon x750 - pci-e card) I can now get to various screens but sooner or later (so far) my pc just locks up completelyand I have to hit the reset button to restart the machine. Its still very frustrating and although I have no wish to request my money back at the moment my thoughts are heading in that direction. Has anyone else had problems with catalyst drivers or know of a rock solid crash proof version of them?

Finally got the game to work, so thanks for the pointers, I'm using the Omega 3.8.231 driver for my ATI card.

Well it worked for so long anyway, I took a break, came back and was faced with exactly the same problem, I just don't get it with this game, what is it about the graphics (probably) that are so complex that they can reduce a system that runs Doom 3 with no slowdown to a crashing halt requiring the pressing of the reset button? All my drivers are up to date, I have 2 gig of DDR memory it should run with no problem whatsoever.

Any other suggestions?
