Loading my save game crashes Beta 4

I was winning a masochistic game w/beta 4 and trying to load any of my save games causes the app to crash 100% of the time. You can download a zipped version of the save game here: Link

I am sad.

They said in teh release notes that save games might not work for beta 4. (or somewhere, I'm pretty sure it was release notes).

I assume what Brad meant is that save games from prior versions may not work with 1.1 Beta 4, since the new games no longer hold the influence data.

I ran into a saved game crash also. Both auto saves would not play for more than a turn or two before crashing. After sending the crash reports to SD I deleted all my saves. I can make new ones next game instead of saving over the older ones. Now, the game saves a lot faster and loads up with no problem. It makes me wonder if the save function is not completly deleting the old info your saving over.

If your having crash trouble on loading or very long save times, might give that a try.

First, a ZIP file is not an executable, which makes it a poor candidate for virus distribution.

Second, even if I did package a virus inside the ZIP file, I am making posts from my stardock account, which is attached to both my e-mail address and my credit card. It would be phenomenally stupid to do such a thing. Stardock apparently agrees with me, since they routinely open up "scary" ZIP attachments from e-mails sent via SmartException. But from your post, BigHairyGoat, you obviously don't understand any of this.

Third, I did not post the debug.err because I've already used SmartException to log the crash and I've already send that ZIP file to stardock support. I posted a link to a copy of that ZIP so I could draw attention to the devs and maybe find out whether or not this crash would be fixed in the next release. I was trying to be polite (so much for that) and do this without outright pestering the devs. I am very close to finishing my game, which is the best GCII game I've ever played and I can't complete it unless I can load the bloody save files. I am not happy with the prospect of having to start the game from scratch having invested 14+ hours into it, especially knowing that this same problem could happen again with the next game I play!

Fourth, if you bothered reading between the lines of my post, you would have realized that all of the save game files I am having problems with were generated with Beta 4 and only Beta 4. This is not a save game format issue caused by upgrading GCII mid-game from pre-Beta4 to Beta 4.

Bah.
