Morale Report Accuracy - BETA 4 (warning modem users, images inside)

Greetings.

I'm not sure if this is a bug, or a 'feature', but I hope someone could explain this:
As you can see in the screenshots below, I have a high population planet with two morale improvements, and two morale-related Trade Goods. Tax rate is fairy low. But the approval of the planet is going down like hell. In fact, when I finished building each of the morale Trade Goods, the approval rating did DECREASE instead of increasing (may be because increased population, and no effect of the new improvements). Also, in the summary screen does appear two entries for morale bonuses. In the tooltip over the approval label, you can see that the population is decreasing in -79% the approval, but two Extreme Stadiums (+45% morale each), plus Harmony Crystals Trade Good (+20% morale), plus Ultra Spices Trade Good (+15% morale), are only giving an overall +28% morale bonus.

Regards

L

It is linked to the population. Take a look on the wikipedia on this topic, it should enlighthen you. Basic point: the moral penalty due to population (cappeda at -80%) is also applied on morale building and empire wide morale bonus.

Once a planet goes over 20b It becomes very hard to keep them happy. At that point you need to ship people out or not worry about the morale.

Think of the penalty from population not as a "negative modifier" but as a base value. For example, when you start out with 1B people, you have a base morale value of 99. When you add a +50% morale bonus to that, you would get 148 (148.5, but rounded down). However, when you hit 20B people, your base value is 40 morale, so a 50% morale bonus would only raise it to 60%. At 25B people, your base value drops to 20 morale, and a +50% morale bonus would only raise it to 30% morale. This is why you will need more and more morale buildings as you continue to build farms...
