Beta 4 bugs/flaws I have seen so far.

Ok so here is a list of bugs I've found in Beta 4, mind you some were present even in the original release.

1). Sound levels keep changing. Sometimes after an event, or during a track change, all my sound volume changes a good 33% or more down. To compensate I raise the volume manually, then a bit later it decided to jump back up. It isn't just that certain tracks are much louder than others, sound effects are also raised and lowered with the music.

2). When reloading a save game, a fake turn exists. I can load a game and the first depression of TURN does nothing except update the various statistics/readings along the map. This only happens occasionally.

3). When #2 doesn't happen, sometimes all my ships act like they are out of range for moving within my own territory for a round or two.

4). Incorrect reporting on REPORTS screen for other alien civilizations. I was the first race to raise a military, I was the only one on the graphs on the bottom with any bar on military, yet, other alien Civs still reported as having STRONG militaries. Perhaps my spying on them was innacurate for some reason (still not sure how it all works, seems unrelated to espionage levels).

5). More refinement of military +/- for purposes of love/hate from alien civs. Sometimes an enemy will have .01% more military then me, but that is enough to give me a minus and have them attack. Sometimes I have a far higher military than them, and they still act like I have a horrible military, attacking me in force. This is playing on challenging. Not quite sure what reasoning they are using to determine if they love or hate me. Too small a military and they think I am weak and attack, too large and they think I am too strong and attack, am same strength as them and they bug out and attack :chuckle:

6). Unable to CANCEL ship building from the main star/planet map when clicking on a planet -> build ship -> select nothing. It acts like NOTHING isn't bound properly to "nothing". It will often randomly pick a ship to start building. I have to go to the planet screen -> shipyard and select nothing there. Quite annoying

7). Really odd map generation. Could just be the 4 games I've played since downloading Beta4, but it seems like planet specials are much much much more abundant. Which is cool, I do enjoy them, but perhaps adding options controlling the abundance of planetary specials would allow us more versatility in our gaming experience. I had one "normal" map where I was in a corner with 8 Q10+ planets, and 4Q7-9 planets. 10 of the planets had alignment questions upon landing, all planets had a special of some sort. The other games were similar, but not in a corner so it wasn't as unbalancing.

8). The tech screen still is really confusing and/or buggy when showing what techs are needed for ship designs I have saved.

9). +6 logistics points for custom race when I try to use a saved one.

10). Memory leak? After 4 hours of play the game starts chugging a bit. I usually attribute it to having most of the map revealed, but a quick reload fixes it for another 4 hours or so. System specs below in case it's pertinent. Though, I think a debug log dump thing would probably tell you guys more once I figure out how to get it.

11). Many techs not implemented. Stuff like learning centers (neutral ethics) effectively is just wasted research.

12). Special Event failed to do what it said. I had the Altarians on a map who were good or neutral (can't remember). Anyhow, they got this special saying they were turning into evil dudes. Really foreboding and stuff. Well they never changed ethos  Other times I've gotten specials that I cannot quite identify. Cultural bonus? penalty? You really need to add small out of character explainations like. (your culture production is improved!) or (Watch out the Altarans are becoming EVIL!!)

Sometimes I've had races that are traditionally evil turn good without a special event, or good ones turn evil. Kind of nice how it mixes the game up - BUT it can lead to some really bad situations when you're counting on a race to stay the same ethos.

13). End game everyone has a minus hate on me diplomatically with "I know what you are doing". It's either poor game design (or a bug) that this happens eventually to all races because of there being no practical way of avoiding it. Perhaps allow spying on them to nullify the bonus? I do not believe it has to do with my spying on them, as many times I neglect spying altogether.

Eh, probably some more. I'll be posting back later. Really quick here is my specs. I can try to post a dump debug log once I figure out how to Thanks again for giving us a great game!

I just started a game, and each planet so far seems to have one. One planet has a 700% manufacturing, on a 300% research and 100% entertainment, and another 300% manufacturing and 100% entertainment. I thought that was luck.

13). End game everyone has a minus hate on me diplomatically with "I know what you are doing".
I still don't care for the detection on this. It tends to happen even when you're hanging back a few transports around your own planets, or moving them to attack a different alien civ.

I've also wondered what that "I know what you're doing" crap is

Another bug I might have found:

14). Apparently Creativity works different now, or is buggy. I am NOT creative, yet have received 12 free techs this last game by year 3, and at least 9 the game before it. It's like,,, huh? Normally I receive a SINGLE free tech when researching Space Militarization (and I get a free weapon to go along) or I research space defenses (and get a free defense tech to go along). Having played some 50+ games, this pattern has held pretty consistant. 1-2 free low level techs per game. Now, out of the blue I'm seeing many free techs, often times at higher levels. too! One time I received 2 free techs at once!

Now, this might just be working as was originally intended. Creativity never seemed to do much before, and free techs were obviously broken. Does a really really detailed change log from beta to beta exist that might explain tweaks to the research system? I guess I can go hunting.

I think it means they are spying on you, which makes them cocky and want to attack you :/ Really a lame implementation that I hope is someday fixed - or replaced with a fleshed out espionage system. Blowing up starbase modules/starbases, inciting unhappiness on planets, taking over/boming enemy ships, causing a sudden drop in an enemy empire's influence. Plenty of things to dream up. I also hate how when spying, you always steal the piece of crud techs first. MOO2 had a rather nice espionage system, but it can always be better!!

My screen keeps lurching to the right or left on it's own without me telling it to.

And there's a problem with the AI, as it keep researching and building transports and constructors, even when it's getting shot to bits by a foe that has researched weapons, rather than dropping everything, researching weapons in a hurry and building attack ships.

I think you may have a nerfed install. Neutrality learning centers are there and working fine in my beta 4 install. I'm also not seeing other things you've mentioned (or maybe not noticed them because I do things in a different way )

With regard to 14. - tech costs have been reduced by 20% in beta 4, so you will see a lot more multiple tech per turn situations if you have a good research base. They're not free techs, you've just got enough research points to complete 2 or more techs in one turn. As I ignore some branches completely (defensive mostly), when I come back to them I easily get the first 10 or so in one turn - nothing to do with Creativity.

i thought the "we know what you are doing" thing indicated that they felt that your military might be massing for an attack on them.

sure, you might be massing for an attack on somebody else, or just passing through... but "oh, don't worry, i'm just passing through!" sounds like a great cover story for a sneak attack, doesn't it?

and, at the end of the game, when everybody says that, perhaps it's becasue they all know that you are about to win?

The "We know what you are doing" usually means that you have a troop transport in range of one of their planets. If it is a minor race, it only means that you have a troop transort within range of one of its starbases. (Probably a bug, but since it only seems to happen with minor races, it may not be common knowledge.)

The strong military readout is incorrect but it works in your favor. If you are in contact with the race that has a strong military you can talk to them and read what the AI calls a strong military. A lot of times it will consist of colony ships, a few scouts, troop ships. The AI it seems likes to count all ships as being military. If you build like the AI then you will have a strong military also. Build a few core ship for defense. It does not matter if they have all the bells and whistles. The main purpose is to make sure that the AI does not attack while you are doing research for the weapons and such.

In my current the Drengin, say we know what you are about to do, so it is not limited to minor races. They also said, since my military advisors are not very intelligent, there is nothing we can do about it.

Now they funny part, I am the Earth alliance, I am friendly with the Drengin, and at war with the Altarians, and just passing through the drengin territory. Actually massing ships around a Drengin solar system, where he has a lot of fleets. Slows down the enemy getting around all those ships to try and attack my speed 13 fleets.

"I know what you're doing" is simply the AI picking up on a particular strategy that you may or may not be using. Sometimes this is parking transports near their planets, others it is due to cultural influnce, usually when you build a ton of influence starbase around their planets. In the OP's case it is probably the latter, because in the end game, I'm guessing his influence is big enough to be pushing theirs back. This is sometimes picked up by the AI as a "cultural conquest" strategy, and will raise the "I know what you're doing" flag just like the military conquest one with troop transports. I don't see anything wrong with it, but I suppose a separate flag for the two wouldn't hurt.

One bug I noticed when I started the game. There are no words on the tabs! Not on the main menu or the start new game, nothing. I think I want to go back to 1.0 now.

I've also been getting this problem in my latest game.

I agree, it is annoying.

I got the no words on tabs when I first installed beta 2 over beta 1. Reinstalling GalacCiv and repatching it entirely seemed to fix it.

Reboot your computer.
It seems to be a known issue with upgrading to the betas

I too have been encountering this problem...

Even with the percentage for military set to 0 the shipyard still builds ships non-stop.

Clicking on nothing doesn't work either, it simply goes back to what it was before.

when I tried to purchase the nothing selection it offered me a ship called "Ranger."

Very odd.
