Let's talk about focus

Greetings,

I do understand how the focus work for the planets. However, there is something I don't get and I would like your inputs:

Let's say I have a planet with no starport and I focus on military. I am wasting "production". Same thing if I focus on social and I have no more building to build or upgrade on that planet.

However, if I focus the research and I don't have any research building, it does impact the research. It is like you don't need to have any research center to research.

So, the point is I could build no research center at all, go all banks, moral, ect and doing good research by focusing my planets on research. the more population I have, it looks like the more research production I have too.

Is someone figured out the real "productivity" impact having research centers on the overall research?

Thank you

I would like to also add to your post a request that instead of those focus buttons we be given slider bars up ther so we can more manipulate individual planets, like we can on the domestic screen which impacts all planets.

Initial colony produces some research. Social is never wasted in 1.1, it goes to military. Unused military goes straight back into your wallet. Nothing is wasted. But you're completely wrong, if you build no research centers the AI will thrash you.

Yeah man you dont get much research at all without research centers...also that butchers ur military and social production so ud have urself a serious handicap.

I always try to use my biggest planets for research, and my planet with the most industrial bonuses for my industrial capital...thus quick ship building and good reasearch (don't forget to place as many starbases around your planets as possible--the bonus research/production is sweet I had one planet at +340% just from starbases..
