Econ, Tech, Manufacturing Capitals

Where to put them?

Okay, so here I am wondering where to put my econ capitals. Do I put them on a manufacturing capital or a business capital? Do I put a tech capital on a manufacturing capital to balance out the out put of the colony.

I mean, well yes I am retarded, but I love the game.

I'm fairly new to the game myself, so hopefully someone will either confirm this or set me straight.

I think the best place for an econ capital is on the planet that has (or will have) the highest population in your empire. IIRC, it boosts (doubles?) the income of the planet that it's built on, and planetary income is based solely on population. It might actually be best, if you have a large, spare planet laying around, to build mostly farms, entertainment centers, and your econ capital there. In my current game, I have a planet that started at 26 PQ and is now somewhere over 30 PQ with just a couple of farms.

Next time I get a planet like that, I'm going to load it up with farms and Virtual Reality modules. "Welcome to Fantasy Planet!"

I haven't had a business capital yet. I tend to put my manufacturing capital and research capital on separate planets and build just factories or labs on the appropriate world. However, next time I get a 700% manufacturing resource planet, I plan to build one factory, both capitals, and a bunch of labs. And a really big military starbase in orbit!!

Love the username - I have to admit that before I bought the game, I was hoping that the Oscillation Overthruster would show up somewhere in the tech tree!

Depends on what kind of game I'm playing in (actually, I never played in small or medium galaxies, just large or huge), but it has been my experience that specialisation leads to salvation.

If I get a planet with a 700% manufacture bonus on it, then it will be a F-Class planet (factory). If I see many research and 1 manufacture bonus, it will be a R-Class planet (research).

However, if I find a PQ 25+ planet, it's gonna be a M-Class planet (money). As much farm as they can eat, then Moral + Stock Markets! It can usually fuel 6-7 R and F planets.

And finally, on my border, I build 1 or 2 I-Class (influence) planets.

And off course, all my capital/wonders are going on my "best" planet of the appropriate class

maybe in a smaller galaxy, I'm going to specialize a little less... I'll see...

I also have a question about capitols for someone more knowledgable than myself.
If I grasp the games mechanics correctly, it does no good to put a capitol on a resource tile with the appropriate bonus... correct?
Heres my guess at why, those bonuses only apply to the amount of the appropriate resource which is produced (morale, tech, manufacturing points, etc). Those % bonuses will not apply to buildings which produce no points and instead modify the existing produced points of the world. i.e. a tech capitol on a 100% research bonus tile won't give that planet 200% bonuses will it?

You want the econ, tech, and manufacturing caps on different worlds.
Econ - highest quality planet, this is mandatory. You want lots of econ tiles, farms, and entertainment on the planet.
Manu - I prefer a high quality planet to turn out ships fast
tech - I also prefer high quality planet

Dont put the capitals on the same planet, you want to specialize planets around the end of the colony rush.
Specialized research planets, econ/pop planets on most of the quality worlds, and manufactoring planets.
For the manufactoring planets, I would suggest setting them up on key points of the map so they can be the manufactoring ships for their sectors.

Yes. The bonus titles do not apply to the capitals, only the planetary improvements that actually produce something.

Not really optimal IMO - a planet with a +700% bonus should be producing enough on it's own to churn out ships in short order once you get to Industrial Sector. Much better to put the manufacturing capital on a planet with a +300% bonus tile - giving it the equivalent production and having 2 monster ship builders. Remember a planet can only build one ship per turn regardless of how much military production it has, so while you are getting the most bang for your buck by putting it on the +700% planet, you may well be wasting a lot of that bonus production unless building huge capital ships only.

As for the tech capital - definitely go for the "most bang for your buck" approach and put it on a planet that has a +300% research tile to get the most from it.

Econ capital - yeah, high pop planets are ideal but I usually end up building it on my homeworld to get the economic boost early when you most need it - even more so now, with the slow growth in 1.1 beta.

Thanks for the help. But someone posed an interesting question. Do you lose your advantage if you put a manufacturing capital on a Industrial bonus tile?

This game is crazy addictive.

Oh yeah, glad to know someone else out there remembers Bukarroo Banzai. I thought we had all been vaporized.
