maybe a bug but probably a Win XP problem

my daughter has been watching me play GalCiv II since it was released and she's just started playing.

she's set up as a "limited" user on my PC and has shortcuts on her Start Menu to a bunch of games she plays.

when she tries to run GC2 from her desktop she gets the following error message:

The application failed to initialize properly (oxc0000022). Click OK to terminate the application.

I've only seen this message when running the game from her desktop - it works just fine for me.

I'm guessing this is a Win XP thing, something to do with her "limited" status. I have set the Stardock folder on my HD to "shared" but that didn't help.

would appreciate any suggestions for how to get around this.

thanks.

Try starting the shortcut or the exe with "run as". Right click the exe or the shortcut and select "run as" and then you'll have to use your user account creds to give her acount permission to "run as" you. If that doesn't work you'll probably have to upgrade her to "power users' or possibly "administrators".

I can't use "run as" because I don't have a password on my profile.

tried upgrading her status to "administrator" and the game ran OK - I then switched back to "limited" and it still runs so maybe the problem related to the creation of game save directories or something.

thanks for your help

it might.. setup a new admin account.. make sure it can play... give it a password and set it for her to use...

good luck

If you can't/don't want to give her account full admin rights, it might be worth a try just giving her account read/write access to the galciv2 install folder.

I've had to make her an admin - for some reason she couldn't play on "limited" after a cold reboot. no big deal - everything should work for her now at least.

I guess it may be linked with the debug.err file
