My ships keep going off on their own!

this is beginning to drive me nuts and i don't know if this is a common problem. here is an example of the problem. i move a fleet onto my starbase to protect it from an enemy fleet that's about to attack in the next turn. i either press tab to move other ships, or press g to make them guard (it doesn't make a difference). i move the next ship, somewhere else in the galaxy. when i come back to check on the guarding fleet, and they have decided to move to the waypoint that i set for the other ship! now they are off the starbase, which gets destroyed in the next turn

another example is that i move some fast transports onto a fleet so they are protected from nearby enemies, i go take care of some other ship, and when i come back the transports have moved off toward the other ship's waypoint. and they get slaughtered the next turn!

this happens once in a while, not always. anyone else experiencing it? why isn't there a skip movement option for ships, and why the hell are ships moving off when they are not supposed to be selected for movement? help me before i go insane

This is a know problem when dealing with fleets or stacked ships. To be completely sure you do not have the previous fleet/ship selected, click on somthing else such as a planet or enemy ship. Thats the only work-around I have found that guarantees not giving multiple selections the new destination.

The spacebar is the "pass" option for a given ship or hit tab or the "FIND" button to go to the next ship/fleet without giving the current one any orders. However, you will occasionally run into the above problem no matter which way you do it. I only notice this myself if the "stacked" ships context window at the bottom has appeared. (I.E., you have the multiple thumbnails of various ships/fleets/starbases appear.)

Hmm, selecting planets sounds like a better workaround than what I've been doing. I found that the way to avoid it was to click on the square with possible problems, and make sure that every ship or fleet there is deselected before moving on to the next ship. The problem seems to happen when you have multiple ships/fleets selected, then move to annother ship. It doesn't tend to deselect the ships properly (sometimes the first one is deselected, sometimes they all stay selected) and clicking on annother ship only adds that ship to the selected group, it doesn't clear the first group.

I have this problem too, and it's awful. My carefully crafted plans are disrupted, my fleets dispersed, and my starbases destroyed.

I agree with Tomalak- the problem can be resolved by clicking on a planet/sun, and then checking to see that the blue selection cursor is no longer surrounding your previously selected ship. Don't click on empty space, as that does not deselect the ship.

We can only hope that Stardock will soon correct this selection "sticking."

Hm. I've always had problems when the game is saved and reloaded - I come back, and a ship has orders to follow some scout or something, often another race's. After the first few times I've found a constructor at the other end of the map, I've just gone through every ship whenever I load a game to check destinations (very irritating in large games). I haven't had it for a bit so it might have been fixed, but I haven't played for a bit either (waiting for the patch and all).

looks like selecting a planet or sun is the best solution at the moment. it is very annoying to have to do that after moving each fleet. what i've found is that there doesn't have to be multiple fleets in the same square for this to happen. sometimes this happens with one single ship and one fleet messing each other up. i have 1.0x, sure hope the devs know about it and fix it in 1.1...
