Are Conquest and Influence victories mutually exclusive?

Say you have conquest and influence victories enabled. You are trying to conquest the galaxy and there is 1 planet left. In this scenario you will have already won by influence since nearly the entire galaxy will be under your influence, thereby the game ends and you cant win by conquest, right?

You can't win by Influence if you are at war with anyone.

I disable all victory conditions other than military now just so this doesn't happen by accident:P

There's worse. You're allied with someone and you conquer everyone else. If you forgot to break your alliance, you win diplomatically with a lesser score.

Yea that happened to me. The worst part about it is that you cant break alliances on the diplomacy screen! You have to actually attack their fleet. Talk about an oversight

There is a button or switch on a screen (the correct one escapes me now) that says "Break Alliance". You don't have to attack.
