You can't ally with minors, but the other major races can't either.

You're right, its an awsome game!

Yes you can, in my first game i allied with one of the minors. You have to have "close" relation before it's available i believe. I allied with the scottinglas (or something, i'm not sure what their called. I'm not at home)

You should definately try to ally with the Snathi. There's nothing like sticking up for psychotic space squirrels.

On a similar note, does anyone know if it's possible to take over minor race planets with influence? I tried this in my last game with no success, and since you can't (afaik) conduct espionage against them, it's imposible to see the numbers for the effect your influence is having.

Apparently not.

In GC!, there were some that would flip easily (Alexians I think) but no more.

You can't take minor races with influence, and you CAN ally with minor races. In my current game, I attacked the Drath, just to find out the Scottlingas (who 7 of my trade routes went to... :o ) were allied with the Drath...and declared war on me to protect their ally! This little error on my part cost me >300BC/turn income...

I'm not sure where you can tell who the minor is allied with though, I can't think offhand of anywhere it can be found.

Yes you can ally with Minors, in GC1 you could turn the minors by influence, I think you can do that here too, but so far no luck. You can find who is allied with the minors in the minor race screen, just click on the minor and it will provide the information. (I know in GC1 that was the way).

Yes you can. Select "Speak Too". Just below their image is a drop down menu, select the first one to see their relations with all everyone.

I noticed in the Beta5 (and reported to gc2bugs@stardock.net) that when someone I was trading with surrendered their planets to someone I was at war with, the trade routes continued! Has anyone noticed this in the current game?

It's entirely possible. I'm involved in a galactic wide war because I allied with the Snottlings. I was slowly working up my standings with all of the good, reasonable races, most of them liked me. Then one of the major races decided to attack the Snottlings, forcing me to defend them. Because of the web of alliances and friendships, I am now at war with the entire galaxy (sans the Terrans, who were not allied with anyone).

Just in time to test out my new battleships
