Serial Number problems

Hello,
I bought a copy of Galactic Civilizations 2 from Play.com and it arrived today. I installed the game and then I tried to update it through the site and through stardock central but it keep saying the serial number is invalid. I've checked it multiple times of course, changing possible misleading characters, but without success. I'm using the code behind the manual, with the "-" character too... am I doing something wrong?

If you got the european collector's edition (which as I recall Play.com is in the UK, so you should have), you need to get a working serial as Paradox screwed them up. You can exchange the serial you have for one that will let you get the game via download, as well as the updates, at this page: https://www.galciv2.com/Paradox
