Ship to Ship combat

Just a small suggestion...

As I've been playing GalCiv2 a couple highlights of the game for me have been building my fleet, and watching them fight it out.

(I'm just daydreaming, so be advized if some of this sounds stupid.) I guess my suggestion Isn't for a 'major gameplay change' or 'new ship type'. What I'd like to see is a more 'cinematic' battle of my vessels vs the enemies. The exact same result with more 'flare'. I guess you could call it an 'Improved ship combat' viewer. :-/

Muffled sounds of alarm bells as missles slam into the side of the hull, Radio chatter, Screams as a deck decrompresses, large capital ships turning slowly to face their broadside cannons at the enemy. All in all it would just be for show... but I really want that show. I'd also be kind of neat if there was a 'slow battle' option included with this. Where large ship manuever's labor'ish, while the small ships zip around quickly in dog fights. When a ship finally begins to blow up, it's an extended sequence of explosions, or perhaps blinks out quietly as a phasor tears through it's hull hitting life support and main power.

"Please don't take this as an insult for the current system. I love the current system you've got. It just made me dream this up. What would be possible if you truly take the Emperor out of the Captains seat?"

This is probably something that couldn't be done now... but please consider it in GalCiv3!

That would be really cool. But it would require too much time to be done and i'm not even sure that it could be done. They could do something like that in an expansion i guess, but for now i could settle with a cinematic camera that actually follows the action

I was king of thinking a "bridge view" would be really cool...so I could be like in the captains chair of whatever ship I want, viewing the action from a window inside the ship.

Problem is the ships rarely face one another...the weapons just fire at whatever angle they want to, which is fine...it just doesn't lend itself to that particular view

Heh, in my first game, somehow I put the missiles on my ship backwards. so when they fired, the missiles would go out the back then curve around to hit the enemy. Pretty neat.

I really have to say though, I think SD could take the ship battle bit, along with the ship editor, and make a mighty fine starship battling game

Anyone play Nexus: The Jupiter Incident? Now THAT game had some awesome looking ship battles. It's almost a shame it's a tactical game because you miss out on watching.
