Different Weapon/Defence Technologies

I last night had my first experience of GC2, though it was heavily rushed I quickly saw a number of flaws within the game from my own pov.

One of these is the technology tree, I struggled to get to grabs with the sheer complexity of the interactions over various technology lines. I got space weapons and quickly realised that I could see only beam tech and no other weapon technology, why is this? Shouldn't the Beam, Missile and Mass Driver be visible under space weapons?

If its isn't here then can someone please tell me where the hell it is? I can't find it at all!

This goes for space defence technologies as well.

This is because your are in the campaign and your techs are limited by said campaign. Calm down and use what you've got. You'll need it.

Is this sarcasm? Galciv II has the simplest tech tree ever. After the first few levels it's strictly linear.

Too true. The more I play this game, the more I realize that few decisions you make have any impact on the game. The tech tree offers little variation, and is exceedingly generic. I believe that the cause of this is the lack of tactical combat, where MOO 1 sank the majority of its tech tree upgrades. All weapons and armor are exactly the same, just more efficient versions of themselves. Same with any other class of tech.

MOO 1 still has the most reasonable tech tree ever created.
