BUG: Ships can be "upgraded" to their current class

A slightly annoying bug I've encountered: If you select a ship in space and hit the upgrade button, one of the options in the upgrade window will be the ship's current class, and it will have a cost associated with upgrading the ship.

Not a show-stopper by any means, but still annoying.

Also, why do my bug reports never end up in the bug report subforum? I'm selecting the subforum from the drop-down list.

I think that reflects the improvements you have made to that class. Like going from warp drive III to IV

Nope. Every time I upgrade a ship class, I give it a new name (Mk II, Mk III, Mk IV, etc.) and obsolete the old design. Ships of the new class still have the option to "upgrade" to the exact same class they already are.

I noticed this to. I'm still playing my first game and trying to figure out how to upgrade new weapons and defenses. Should they be an upgrade option or do you have to build a new ship design with the new features?

There IS an upgrade option - its in the Shipyard screen. Infact, they simplified the process of upgrading by putting a button that says "Upgrade" in the Shipyard screen once you select an old design to update.

Ok, the bug isn't as bad as I thought. The option is in the upgrade screen, but if you select it and click accept nothing happens.

Are you sure it is a bug? I used it on some of my damaged ships earlier to repair them. At least that was what i did think at the moment. Is there any other ways to repair damaged ships?

I think damaged ships repair themselves over time. I guess that might repair the ships? I'll check the next time I play. Seems like kind of a weird interface dynamic in any case.

Well, you should try to upgarde, at the first turn, the colony ship for its own type. I think it costs you money too.

And before anybody ask, that was spotted during the beta. But it is still worth mentionning to Stardock this strange behavior

Thanks. I'll have to look into that tonight. I didn't see it in the shipyard. The only option I saw was clicking on the ships themselves but when you do this it doesn't give you any option to add new components to them.

Ok, I have looked on the shipyard screen and see the upgrade button but it's greyed out. I have only the starting level 1 laser weapon on my ships. I have some defense and weapon technologies researched or traded for from other civs. I.E. I have laser 3 tech which I traded for. How do I get my upgraded techs onto current ship designs?
