Whats Happened

There was a time a while back, that (according to a Skinner I know), told me that WinCustomize would not put just anything that was submitted up on their site. First the artwork was submitted. It was viewed, and if the work was worthy, it would make it to the site. I was told a lot of the stuff was turned dowm because of the lack of quality, usability, and funtionality. It seems now that there is a lot of terrible stuff that make it, that is awful. They receive bad ratings, very little downloads, and responses are not pleasant. Now don't get me wrong, if they were taking the criticism, and using it to improve their work, would be one thing, but some people just dont get it. They have no talent. Maybe I am blowing off steam, but at one time if new art appeared, you new that it would be at least worth the download to try. I am just real tired of some of the junk.

Thanks for letting me vent "bearfest"

The moderation of which you refer to was only applied to Wallpapers. The admins decided to lighten up a tad due to various reasons (among them was to promote encouragement). To my knowledge no other section has ever been moderated for quality, only originality/permission gained.

There is almost zero [not quite] moderation of skins, and that's been the same since day one.

There is 'more' moderation of wall-based works, namely Bootskins, Logons, and naturally walls themselves.

Eg...if a boot looks horrible due to poor dithering to 4bit it gets the 'boot' [pun]

If a Logon is 'only' a wall...the skinner has ignored the other images...it too gets the 'boot'.

Walls are effectively voted upon....concensus of 'yays' gets it in...'nays'...you get the picture, the site doesn't - [even worse pun].

Generally entry standards are not so much 'relaxed' as just accepting more of what would be considered 'simple' works.  Complexity should not be a definer of a 'good' wall, and isn't....

Thanks Phoon and Jafo

You guys are right. I forgot which it applied to. I thought it applied to all. I just get tired of seeing things like Cursors that are created, and submitted, then a couple of days recoloured, and named something else. There is no creativity with that. All that does is bump the real artist's work off the main page. For some artist, it takes weeks, and months to create their art. Some of the things now look like it took them a hour. Its not fair in my books.

What I wish would happen is since the artist's are named from apprentice to journeymzn, why not have levels at which you can view their work. That way beginners will have the access of WinCustomized to begin their creativity, and jouneymen are in a class that would give the apprentice something to reach for.

I think the only time skins should be moderated out is when they're obvious rips of other skins, or the work of another person is used with out permission.

to promote encouragement

And as someone just starting out, I want to say thanks.

I have seen comments like this before. I don't quite get them. It's as if some people feel that they have 'commissioned' someone to create a peice of art and got cheated. This is a community. People aren't getting 'compensated' for their work as if they were hired to produce it, yet often it seems that is how some people react.

They have no talent.

Perhaps 'you' could offer some submissions and tilt the tables towards talented/quality work as opposed to the 'junk' that's been getting through?

There are a lot, and I mean a lot of very talented people in this community. There are some up and commings, that I viewed when they first started, and I went this is bad, but as they took comments, learned, and stuck with it, have become tops in their fields. I am not talking about the 98% of these artist. I'm talking about the wannabe artist that keep putting up garbage that does not make sense, and they do not seem to be making any improvements at all. There should be a standard of whats acceptable.

I have a feeling the one just deleted was Kol's Mac skin that was supposedly modified. I still don't see how that could've passed.

We are all human here-- mistakes happen... (well, there are a few other species around, but none is infallible)

I resemble that remark

Sleeping Dragon:

If I may use you as an example. If you take a look at how far you've come since your first work. Would you say you have improved? I do! Do you critisize the ones who have issues with your work? I have viewed some of your responses, you take that response, and use it to improve your artwork! Some of your art is on the edge. It may not be my taste, but you think out of the box. I admire that.

Thank you, bearfest. But, (and this is going to sound so trite, so I apologize ahead of time) had I not been rejected, had battles with admins, embarrassed myself and then gone back to the drawing board, I would never have advanced at all. I still am nowhere near where I want / need to be, but it was this site telling me my stuff was not good or unique enough that kept me searching until I found an avenue to create that fitted my personality a bit. I'm not done learning. But I owe this lot of skeptics quite a bit for "rejecting" my "stuff". OK, I said it. You may all hurl now.

Dragon

My point exactly! You are part of the 98% i am talking about.

I appreciate that, but some are moving at the only pace they know how, for a while. Eventually it will "click" I believe. ...and for that 2% that irritates you (and many others), hopefully it will be soon.

I doubt it. But I'll keep trying
