Try a few glasses of Drambuie, guaranteed to fix a sore throat   It won't get rid of the cold but you'll have a nice warm feeling all over...

Does it hurt and have a tempature? LOTS of vitamin C.

And no matter how tired you feel, Adam, get to the gym. Working out helps to release the viruses that are basically poisons to our bodies.

Go to your drug store and ask for AIRBORNE works great, and you get 100% guaranteed satisfaction or your money back! Stuff worked for me!

Grab a book & stay in bed for 3 days. Eat chicken soup & oatmeal. Drink tea & orange juice.

If you do nothing for your cold it will last 7 days. Otherwise you'll be cured in a week...

Hey Adamness : sorry to hear you are under the weather - a sure fire remedy that will rid you of this cold & any forthcoming in the future is Elderberry Extract which comes in a glycerin cap in the Jamieson line - make sure you get the 2000mg & take it every 4 hrs until symtoms subside ie.runny sinuses, etc. - thereafter, once a day for preventative measures - far ahead & away to Echinacea - to rid yourself of the mucous in your throat in the interim, 50mg of a pressed Zinc powder will dry that up - saved my Carribbean vacation when everyone in my office at Xerox was sick as dogs;& that was Christmas '02

Gotta love Lewis Black. Thanks for all your suggestions. Part of me wants to stay sick to try them all out. Or maybe not.

The only thing I'm skeptical of is going to the gym. That's just not happening.

Have your genitals slammed in a door....guaranteed to make all concerns of 'head cold' be gone for quite some time...

Next time you feel something like that coming.. start sucking on zinc lozenges.  They make the mucous membrane lining of your throat and nose inhospitable to germs.

Zinc is the one thing that is proven to help symptoms. I know there are other remedies that work for some, but zinc gives some degree of relief to all.

ZICAM, swabs for inside your nose and Zicam spray for your throat, no refined sugars! 2 grams of good quality vit. c, in divided doses!
Hot baths, wrap up in warm blankets and hit your bed, with several bottles of quality bottled water and high protein snacks! and stay there, use the Zicam swabs and spray every 4 hours and disenfect your toothbrush too! Strong mouthwash for 10 minute soak should help!

Now start heeding some advice (with the exception of the door thing) and you should kick it in 3-4 days! KEEEP YOUR HANDS CLEAN! and do the world and favor and stay away from other people!

I'm gonna tell you what my Irish Grandma did when I had whooping cough to break the fever, the congestion, and bring me back.

Put on your fav jammies...then some sweatpants and sweatshirt.
Get under at least 2 (should be 3) blankets/comforters whatever.
Drink 3..not 1, not 2, but 3 hot toddy's. (Tea, lemon, lotsa honey, and a shot of Irish whiskey or it's equivelant if there is sucha thing in each cup o tea) You gotta 'drink em', not sip. You wanna guzzle the first, down the second, and kill the third before the first two catch up.

I don't need to tell ya, you're gonna sweat like a french call girl at a shriner's convention in Vegas ..but it gets all the nasty stuff out. If you don't fall asleep (pass out0 from the toddy's and the sweat and all is too much...get into a nice steaming hot shower and soak.

Finally....vaporizer, vaporizer, vaporizer, and some Vicks.

You may think I'm nutz, but it worked for me and still does. And has for everyone I had to strong arm into doing it.

This is correct, unless you are allergic to Elderberry {can be, if you have strawberry allergies and etc}
and
Echinacea
won't help if you are allergic to ragweed!

k...thx Cynder....I overlooked allergies.........then yours & Po's would be the only effective alternative remedies

If treated vigorously, the common cold can be knocked out in about 7 days. If no treatment is given, it is generally self-limiting to a week.

Will sound sick. But, in addition to all of the other great ideas posted here..

Why don't you try out Chinese soup with Chicken broth in it and also drink a lot of Orange Juice. Always does the trick for me.

If it's a cold... do nothing. If you get a fever... Advil fever reducer. The best medicine for a cold is to carry on with your usual routine. Medicines may make you feel a little better, but will make your cold last twice as long.
