Save game locations

Bah!

From the preload readme:
"* Save games and preferences are stored under
Documents and Settings\%username\My Documents\GalCiv2."

Can we change this? I really dislike it when games don't place the saves inside the game's own folder (Damn you to hell, Civ4!). I keep my OS etc on my C: drive and games on my D:. Why allow us to choose where to install the game and then just place the saves in another location?

Anyway, aside from that the game looks awesome, I wouldn't normally bother complaining about a trivial thing like this, but Brad is wonderfully open about the design of the game and might tell me why it's done.

p.s. More game example please, love em.

Sometimes the reason it's done like that is so that your savegames are only accessable to your logon. Great for computers that have multiple users, i.e. work, not so practical for the home PC that is only used by one person. If there is a way of changing the save game path, I'd like to know too.

It's been discussed (and complained about) before. The reason for it is that Microsoft wants all games to put their stuff there, for user segregation as the abover poster noted and other purposes that I can't presently recall

See this https://www.galciv2.com/Journals.aspx?AID=95315

Most paths can be redirected, either by extra programs or just from within windows.

Get the "powertoy" tweakui from MS you can even change your desktop (folder) location

not so practical for the home PC

Well, unless it is used by more than one person

Also something not mentioned yet here is placing "ALL" savegame files in one place like the My Dorcuments folder will make making backups of your savegames very easy compared to copying all the different folders to CD for backup. Of course this is estimating that you have MANY games installed.

MANY games installed? I don't THAT many...although that unfinished copy of Icewind Dale II is still on the drive. And a copy of Fallout 2. The save game path is kind of annoying if have multiple hard drives and want to have a fairly clean Windows drive. All well.

Where are the Saved Games saved??? Is there an alternate location as I can't find them at all since both these folders are missing:
"C:\Documents and Settings\%username\My Documents\GalCiv2" or "D:\MyDocs\GalCiv2"
(PS: the actual "my doc" are redirected to d: and no longer in default c: so where in the world did the save games go to?)

Look for my documents\My Games\GalCiv2 they should be there (unless you're on 98/ME)

Otherwise search for the name of the save games with the .sav extension ie; AutoSave.sav or PreviousAutoSave.sav
