What Custom Race are you gonna make?

Tediz! That'll be my first custom race. Skimming over the manual, I'd probably have them high on loyalty, ship hit points bonuses and something else. Military oriented, for the most part. I plan on making their ships really rugged looking, like Reavers from Serenity or the Turanic Raiders from Homeworld. Rugged and mean.

For those who don't know what Tediz are, take a look at my Avatar and Icon. Tediz are animated stuffed teddy bears that fought in the Milk Wars in the backstory for the game Conker's Bad Fur Day (rereleased on the Xbox as Conker: Live and Reloaded). I've already got my image ready to import to the game as the race picture. Tediz are gonna rule the galaxy. >)

I've also got a second concept for a not-so-militaristic race made out of origami. The ships would look like foled paper; cranes, square bases, tulips... the cooler shapes of the origami world. I'm going to get a picture of an origami person and use that as the portrait. They'd be far more peace loving and diplomatic.

What do you guys plan on making? I saw someone had an awesome background on a race of felines called Kats.

Anyone else got idea?

Try gnabbing a screenshot of one of their cinematics. And I think the old Homeworld 2 concept box had a portrait on it... you might be able to find a picture of that somewhere, if you're really lucky. That one was colored and all.

Some kind of Vampire Empire/civilization for sure! Just got to load a jpg vampire leader picture and other data. Draculan Empire anybody? Go vampires, rule the galaxy.

The Holy Wraith Empire, a fanatical cyborg-religious civilization. Really, really nutty in the head -- the basic point of playing them will be to annihilate all Neutral and Evil races. Anyone not pure enough should be WIPED out, in their opinion.

I've got two ideas for races. The first I call Legion, for they are many. Basically just some kind of bug or furry beasty that's hell-bent on conquering the universe by swarming everybody with tiny hull class ships.

The second I call the Neutrals, and are based on the Neutral People that were to host the headquarters of DOOP in Futurama. Grey/White color scheme, don't make any commitments whatsoever. Mostly neutral. They feel nothing one way or the other. "If I don't make it, tell my wife I said, Hello."

Does anyone know where to put custom race images? Also, can you convert .jpg to PNG images, and if so, how? What is a PNG?


PNGs are basically high-quality image formats. You could convert a .jpeg with a simple editor tool like Irfanview, and I imagine all you'd have to do is make an image with the appropriate size, and place it in the Race folder under graphics. You may have to name the file something, but I'm not as programming savvy as others.

Huh, religion is pretty dope as a motivating force for genocide, thats for sure. I kinda like the Drengin orientation though, evil but only to the extent the situation allows, allmost amoral. Makes them more evil becuase they kill and don't care. I'll probably play as them the most, maybe give them a black gotee and tweak the racial traits for a strong economy. The Space Ital -I mean Drath are neat too but they don't look as cool as the Dregnin. Dregnin look like Dr. Zaius after a bad divorce.

Basically PNG is a losless compressed image file while JPG is compressed lossy. Both can be pretty high quality or low quality. (yes Im such a clever guy I know )
And yes the windows paint should be able to handle a png without a problem.

I will make a race called the cartoons. Most of the time, they will just make everyone laugh. The other races will be too overcome with halarity to attact me. But then when it is least suspected, I will make a bad cartoon. Then the universe will be in for it.

Why not just use word and copy them over or any other text program for that matter. I know I seen a post by I believe Darth Griffin that the character has the ability to let you make a web page for that matter and some other tools. Free too.

I am going to go for the Cat People, with the home world Fyushal Two. AKA, the crazy cat from Red Dwarf and his people who had a religious war about which colour hats their priests should wear, red or blue. In the end they choose green. They will be intensely loyal and fanatical and spread the word of their God Cloister (Lister) to the stars using the sacred text "Seven socks, one shirt--" to find the promised land of Fyushal (Fiji).

As I've said before, I will be the Ur-Quan Kzer-za from Star Control 2. Accomidating and merciful to those who surrender, brutal and unrelenting to those who resist. The Ur-Quan are stoic and calculating xenophobes who will go to any length to make sure that no species is ever given a chance to develop powers of psychic domination. Long ago the Ur-Quan were enslaved by creatures possesing such a power, and the path to liberation was one of pain and suffering. Now they search the galaxy for independent races, providing peace and security to those they conquer in return for their total submission to Ur-Quan will. They're not very nice people(make that caterpillars) but they're certainly more humane than their cousins the Ur-Quan Korh-Ah, who have dispensed with mercy and sanity entirely and simply wipe out every species they encounter.

I was thinking of creating the "Drengin Commune."
A small band of Drengin's that grew tired of Drengin warmongering, living in secrecy in Drengi until they managed to slowly find other like-minded Drengins, covertly working their way up the ranks of society until enough of them gained enough power to put themselves in control of a starship and escape to a new world. There, they lived as monks, communing with the flora and fauna of their new home, until the time came when they knew they would once again have to take to space in order to spread their peace-loving culture and save the galaxy from their evil brothers.
Basically, Drengin hippies. With big spaceships.

I want to come up with a few races of my own once I've had some time to create appropriate images and whatnot, but I like the idea of playing around with what's already there first and this seems like it'd be funny to do.

Would be nice to do an Honor Harrington mod although I don't know if you could do hammerhead ship designs.Would be fun to go up against the Peeps.
