What Custom Race are you gonna make?

What Custom Race are you gonna make?

Custom race of...

Tediz! That'll be my first custom race. Skimming over the manual, I'd probably have them high on loyalty, ship hit points bonuses and something else. Military oriented, for the most part. I plan on making their ships really rugged looking, like Reavers from Serenity or the Turanic Raiders from Homeworld. Rugged and mean.

For those who don't know what Tediz are, take a look at my Avatar and Icon. Tediz are animated stuffed teddy bears that fought in the Milk Wars in the backstory for the game Conker's Bad Fur Day (rereleased on the Xbox as Conker: Live and Reloaded). I've already got my image ready to import to the game as the race picture. Tediz are gonna rule the galaxy. >)

I've also got a second concept for a not-so-militaristic race made out of origami. The ships would look like foled paper; cranes, square bases, tulips... the cooler shapes of the origami world. I'm going to get a picture of an origami person and use that as the portrait. They'd be far more peace loving and diplomatic.

What do you guys plan on making? I saw someone had an awesome background on a race of felines called Kats.

Anyone else got idea?

Would be nice to do an Honor Harrington mod although I don't know if you could do hammerhead ship designs.Would be fun to go up against the Peeps.

I have but one thing to say... well, for now anyway.

"We are the Borg. You will be assimilated. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile."

I've always wanted to sweep across the galaxy in an RTS as the Borg... and now I CAN. Why? Because it's one thing to BEAT your enemy, but a whole 'nother kind a nasty to ASSIMILATE them.
Only problem would be making the ships actually look Borg-ish. That could be a wee bit difficult unless somebody did some custom models and skins.

They would also look quite boring.... can you imagine ship designing these things....

Hmm... should I choose the cuboid hull..... or the cuboid hull?

IT would be pretty easy to make a borg hull--just get a borgy texture, slap it on a cube in a 3d modeller. Place one hardpoint dead-center inside that you can add jewelry on and attatch whatever you need to (you don't see borg cubes flying around with big weapon mounts and engines on teh outside, eh?). So then your cube will fly around in combat just shooting beams out from the inside.

Borg equipment would be a problem. Getting a ship to move like an actual Borg ship would be pretty tricky, methinks. Borg ships generally spin on their Z axis whenever moving or in combat and hold still at lower speeds or when stationary. They also don't fight like normal ships: you'll never see any fancy manuevers... or ANY kind of maneuvers from one of them.
Also, can you imagine how goofy it would look if a cube weren't level? They're ALWAYS level, because they're the most number crunching, subspace collectively linked, butt kicking, perfectionist, obsessive compulsive race ever. Or at least the obsessive compulsive part.
Bummer. Now the Borg sound like a real challenge to implement. I don't have any of the skills necessary for such a task. Looks like I'll have to wait for the other 'Treckers to make them for me. Oh well, there's always the Yor.

As I did with SE IV, MOO3, MOO2 and uncounted other 4X-games, my first civilization will probably be the Iron Star Coalition, a people from a series of short fiction written by myself which also appears in my group's current d20 Future adventure. It's just a tradition of me using them

FIRST I probably will play the story

Then ... I probably will try all all possible default races just to get a taste

Then ... 100% technology oriented race only.

I have two custom civilizations (re: parties) I played on Galciv1. The post-singularity nanotechers and the master terraformers. Since PQ picks aren't as significant in GC2, I think I'm going to go with Nanotech people.

But I'm going to start with the Iconians. They have good economics and research, lots of starting techs and I can call myself Lord Cthullu.

hey, im having a brain fart, havent modded in awhile, but uh yeah how do you create custom race images? i've converted the pictures to gif and png and renamed them "raceimage82" and placed them into the race folder, still they do not come up in the game, any suggestions?

"Alteran Remnants" - neutral, scientific focus, preference for large ships with missile weapons and shields. Smaller ships will lack shields. The ships themselves will be far heavier on defense than offense, to reflect a siege mentality.

Here's one I'm working on. I got GalCiv 2 shortly after the death of my son's pet guinea pig Oreo. When I told him I could make my own race he suggested that I make one to remember Oreo. My avatar is the in game race portrait. I borrowed the Iconian backgroud, pasted a real picture of CAPT Picard's chair over it and then a picture of Oreo over that. I felt the game needed a race of good warriors to offset the Drengin. I gave them only military race abilities. I was thinking of that rabbit in that Monty Python movie. Their story is that they were discovered by the Altarians shortly after the introduction of the hyperdrive. The Oreans reside on their home world of Cavia Prime. I have been reading Kryo's "how to" notes here and there on custom everything. I want to give them ships with their own look. I hope to share my completed work with all on the metaverse.
