I have been toying with this idea: A calendar with illustrations by skinners. Each month, in addition to all my electronic helpers, I print out an 8.5x11 calendar to write on. I usually leave some space at the top for a goofy little illustration. Would any of you submit illustrations for a 2002 calendar? Or am i just old fashioned for using paper?
When i am working on pieces, i usuall wind up needing to get from one skin directory to another quite often...as in: c/programs/thisprogram/skins/myskin to c/programs/myotherprogram/skins/theskini'mwokingon. all that digging around is a total drag. Bob Helmer at Shellcity.net hipped me to a program called "FileBoxExtender (FBX) that adds a "recent" and "favorites" button to every open or save dialog. You owuldn't beleive how convenient that is. perhaps, in the very near future, folks iwll have the option of going to places they remember form skinnings old days, and soem of the load will be taken off here... Deskmod is returning, adn there are other things afoot. perhaps this site can be the official XP Cult site, and skinners of other programs will migrate to faster, more varied fields?
Long ago, i did a couple of experiments inthis field. the reaction to adult skins is vastly (almost viciously) negative.

IN case you havent' noticed, there is a frenzied wide-eyed cult of XP around right now, and i am sure they would gladly gouge out your eyes for even IMPLYING that XP isn't the best thing since sliced bread and human reproduction. feline, there are lots of people in the community who are goodhearted, & who express that. you are right in that, some of what you are seeing presently has roots that go way back (even unto the late '90's) don't sweat it, and don't let it taint your experience. that these things have happened in public is a shame. but it's too late to do anything about that. enjoy skinning, enjoy the work of your peers, and enjoy interacting with this community. t

Tek has shied away form doing "reviews" of any kind, for the most part. With so many sites in such a small niche, any "review" we might do of a site could only be one reviewers "opinon" which, for hte life of me, i have to believe, would not be positive, nor responsible. Tek has, in it's first year, had interviews with almost eveyrone runnign a "big league" skin site...and anyone we have missed, we are working on. You would greatly benefit by reading a book called "The Haj" by Leon Uris (yeah, the same guy who wrote "Trinity"). Quite an immersive red, goes whey back in to the history of the region, well researched by Mr. Uris over a period of years, and has some really deep insight into teh Q'aran, too. Well worth your time, and it will answer many of yoru questions. Check it out now at your local library.
