Well I think, with more than a bit of help from my forum homies, have blown off the rust. Using the previous settings, I started in the middle of a huge map...and was comfortable the entire time: Turn 91: I had highest score at 218. I was 1st in population with 212. AI population was 83/85/112/161. I was 1st in planets owned with 27. AI had 10/12/19/24. I built 57 ships. AI had 16/63/69/72 and was highest on military power graph most o

For colony rush, I spent myself down to 700 credits in the first few turns getting colonizers and a few factories on homeworld...I guess I'll spend every dime next time and see if that helps. Sigh, I guess I will have to wean myself off "get ion drive before really getting serious about weapons". ______ Took the advice regarding "speed 3 combat ships is fine for early game" and "get some ships built asap" Got a much better result on this next
I don't think "huge" map is that big really. I use "common" star frequency so there is a lot of space between systems. I reach "ion drive" tech and my default constructor has 10 speed and jets across the map in just a few turns. I don't see how graphs will help...I have a much more basic issue if other players are having no trouble with higher difficulty and not being crushed in every category by turn 100. But what the heck I will start looking at graphs (
(before I go on: I know this game has a long way to go...but I'm lovin' it as it is) TLDR summary: is a "huge" galaxy too small for "challenging" difficulty setting for a casual player? I'm really tired of seeing "you are weak" in the diplomacy summary and having 1/2 to 1/3 of leading AI empire score even before I've researched a decent weapon. Howdy, I'm a casual galciv1 & 2 player from the way back machin
Was happily playing along with fresh install of 1.20 for over a week...then ran into a corrupt savegame. version 1.29 will also crash trying to load the savegame. This was a save during a large random-map game (temperate with high resources) with 3 opponents. Was fairly moving along with about 8 cities and a substantial lead over the nearest AI emps. Had a serious abundance of just about everything so a lot of "new building/unit" events each turn.<br /
No problem...you may not exactly thank me when you find yourself at 4:30am still playing...and have to work in a few hours:)
Fall from Heaven 2 was indeed spectacular....but I think you will really like one of the successor developments going on with the Wildmana mod-mod, now entitled Master of Mana: www.masterofmana.com completely discrete magic system: spells and effects, magic based unit promotions, magic research tree, magic based terraforming), truly unique civ builds, I could go on and on warning: this mod will stretch a lot of systems. I have to boot Windows
No need for a lecture about "complaints about lack of beloved feature" because this post is not really about that. As stated in the OP, we're talking about a combination of bugs/changes that negatively affected the early game and not just a focused complaint about teleport or whatever feature. For myself I didn't use teleport in my last game and only had one Sov build with Organized in the previous versions. Now..Organized, plus Adventurer and I was zooming around a bit to
actually scratch that...I had an archive version of Elemental 1.08...so uninstalled and restored the archive version. phew! Even though I have "show pre-release (alpha/beta) versions" disabled...I am still seeing 1.08b. I have chosen "ignore update" to avoid 1.08b. Hopefully future updates such as the juicy 1.09+ will prompt/update fine. Recreating factions/sovereigns and starting anew with 1.08.
thx very much for the quick response! This is strange: I already had the Impulse option "show pre-release (alpha/beta) versions disabled (unchecked) ...are we SURE that 1.08b is a pre-release version? So what I'm going to do: 1. toggle the "show pre-release (alpha/beta) versions on/off 2. Uninstall Elemental. 3. Hope/pray I can get to 1.08 with Impulse auto-update. &nbs
Yes, I agree something had to be done when in earlier games we could leave mostly undefended cities and just zoom around with our "zooming Sov stack of doom" that could return cheaply anywhere. I still stand by my OP comments but I will give 108b a few more games. I appreciate that this community can disagree and be mature about it as well. Huzzah! 1. archery broken by a patch? that alone is reason enough for pulling it or issuing emergency
I forgot to mention that this thread was inspired by this one: https://forums.elementalgame.com/396977 ...about the stagnant first 25 turns... ...archiving the app and will try your suggestion, thx bsaksida.
1. bows 100% miss (anyone have a fix for this?). 2. Changes now result in stagnant early game (some posters have already done detail on this). All of the below were designed to make the early game suck: Teleport raised to cost 15 - sheesh why even put this as available for starting Sovereign? One imbue and that Sov can't cast it. This is crucial spell or allow the young Sov to roam and able to return to defend those early cities. Org
bow 100% miss bug, teleport raised to 15 cost, removed organized trait...anything else to DISSUADE one from upgrading? I regret having upgraded to 108b. Stopping play on Elemental until the next patch....again.
in addition to removing Organized, ...Teleport is now cost 15...so unusable. This spell was crucial to allow early Sov to roam and gain adventure/combat exp. and starting Sov stack goes like 1 square like you said. then we add the inevitable (at least on hard+ difficulty) bandit group that spawns early and goes DIRECTLY for nearest city and must be defended against. The Sov cannot really move far in my early game experience. I would
right-click the Sovereign gets you option to delete
Same with Cedar Longbows, either in trained units, or in "bandit archer" random unit.
Well a bit of buggy reality to spoil the fun. I have the CD version of SR2 and bought just the SR2: Reboot (2.005) off of Impulse. Ran right into the ""This application has failed to start because DebugMsg.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." Realising that this is a small developer team and so I cut them a break because I have been waiting for a long time for this moment. Solution: a. made a full backup of the c:\Program Fi
:CONGRAT: couldn't actually believe it until i read it here in this thread! an update to SR2 after looooong last! purchased via tokens and awaiting the download... ...i've discovered that jumping up and down for joy doesn't actually make the download go faster.
