I am curious if this issue is able to be reproduced as I do not have the DEV build. I would double check your settings just in case, ie see if the "use the start11 start menu" slider accidentally got switched to off. I am sure if this problem is reproduced then your best bet will be a system restore to before you did the update and wait until there is a fix before you update again.

Yikes. That is the latest DEV build, I stopped that channel a few months ago. Hopefully Neils method works, I would hate to see MS screwing around with their code.

I disagree, I think the fact that Microsoft has built in advertisements is common knowledge. People are more smart then you give them credit for. Windows 11 was made to sell hardware. Microsoft will make a lot of money off of hardware sales. If Microsoft made all of its money off of being a personal information seller then they would have just stayed with windows 10 since it has the same capabilities

Unofficially, Start 11 will be the go to start button for the duration of Windows 11. You won't need to upgrade until Windows 12 is released, and that should be a while. I do know that if you purchase the license individually, then you get it for life plus all updates until they stop work on it. I do not know how updates work in object desktop. I can not say I have the same amount of optimism for the Windows Store. I buried its function in Windows 8, I buried it again in Windows 10, and I find myself burying it some more in Windows 11 minus some random curiosity as to whether it is now good or not. So far, it is still not pulling me in. The Microsoft Store and a powerful PC just seem like an odd couple. There are just too many phone resembling apps that have the look of a misfit on a pc. Adoption rate of windows 8 was at about 2.5 percent after 3 months. Where as Windows 11 is at 8.9 percent in the first 3 months. That is more in line with what we saw with Windows 10 not Windows 8. Windows 10 also had an adjustment period where not all things worked properly on release as is the case with Windows 11. It is fair to state both were a bit of Beta's as of their debut.

I agree with 93 and 94. Windows 11 trajectory looks very close with Windows 7 and 10 so far. Its adoption rate is steady, although still at about 10 percent. That actually is not bad since it is in its early life. I remember when Windows 7 came out we were in a very similar situation, there were a lot of people that did not want to move away from Windows XP as they swore by it as the better operating system. I bet there was a forum somewhere that looked pretty identical to us debating 7 vs 10

I think the main reason Microsoft launched Windows 11 was to get people excited about PC's again. Year after year people are getting new 1,000 dollar phones but are very rarely buying new pc's. It looks like we are in agreement about some of the problems. The way I see it we also have two very equal solutions. 1. Stay with Windows 7 2. Upgrade to Windows 11 and turn off the privacy switches and disconnect your Microsoft id. I guess it all comes down to taste preference as to whether you like the old school look of Windows 7 or the more modern look of Windows 11. Here is my take on tech and Microsoft. Back when stardock first went heavy on software that augments Windows for the better their focus was on making windows 8 more like windows 7. This was great because Windows 8 was basically an upgraded version of Windows 7 with a very strange start menu. So putting back in Windows 7 features that was taken out felt very natural.
