Singleplayer without internet connection in Offworld Trading Company Stardock Forums

Whenever I am not connected to the internet, I can't even start singleplayer games. The log always shows: [App] Lost connection or server ended the game, going back to the main menu How is it possible that the game works with internet connection but not without?
