There is indeed a simple menu item you can click during the personalizing of the Start 8 settings, in order to de-activate the charms bar as well as the interactive Windows 8 corners -- at least there was on the trial version i downloaded. This was the principle reason I tried the software, and it worked fine, i even turned it on and off just to make sure.
