Thanks Zhrakkan for the clarity. Something that hopefully doesn't catch you off guard, but a followup question on your expectations: Our permanent licenses are meant for being a permanent license of that given current version. So, Fences 6, which was released a couple months ago. These days we do a major new version generally every 1.5-2yrs, and then try to continue support for at least a year or more after that (especially for major breaks; typically Fence

I guess the question moreso being – if they saw it at all and misunderstood it, or didn't see it at all, just saw the "Subscription" stuff before even looking at the buttons and figured there was not a one-time purchase available etc. Some folks might not know what a permanent license means even if there's a button, since we've already said "1 year subscription", etc. So larger text, buttons etc doesn't necessarily resolve the issue.
Hi, yes we do offer a permanent license for that specific version (v6 etc); It’s underneath the buy button. Since you didn’t see this and came here to ask, seeing it here now, is there a way we could have made this more apparent?
+1 to this, could you inch it down little by little until you feel some resistance? I assume that snapping is enabled in the layout tab. Seeing you have an animated wallpaper program it’s almost certainly related to that being installed. Which app are you using, and are you using multiple monitors? Is that DeskScapes or another app
Hi geech, sorry to hear this. Can we get you to try to capture some logs so we can see if it has any hints? (1) Turn on advanced logging. You can do this from About → Troubleshooting (2) Reboot or log off & on (3) Reproduce issue a couple of times. (4) Head back to About → Troubleshooting and select Upload Log, being sure to reference this post & your username Not sure if it'll show anything, but, we'll see.
Hello all- A hidden option has been added for an upcoming version, v6.02 and onward. You can enable it by setting DisableCreateFolderPortalHere to a DWORD of 1, at the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Stardock\Fences\Settings We'll be evaluating where to perhaps put this option in the UI, without adding too much of a mess to the Folder Portals area.
Virtual Desktops present a great deal of compatibility issues, with the interface changing frequently with Windows updates as well as a very long tail of old interfaces to support, and it's all quite unofficial as Microsoft does not officially support any of this. So! It's something we're looking at and would like to do, but currently no timeline for availability or R&D completion.
Hi, followup question. What is the system DPI, and how many monitors? Do any monitors have a different DPI? Does this generally happen when waking the monitor from sleep etc? For the resized ones, does moving the Fence group by even say a single pixel resolve the issue? Thanks for the help
Hi dudechester just checking in to see if you've gotten to take a look. We just released v6.01 beta which includes this, and the link with the patcher above is more or less identical. We think we've solved at least a couple of the issues you've mentioned.
Hi Andy just checking in to see if this helped. We just released v6.01 beta which includes this, and the link with the patcher above is more or less identical.
Hi Espanza thanks for letting us know. This is a new one, so we'd like to look a little closer to see what we can do. Can you try this? First, enable advanced debug logging (1) Go to About pane (2) Click Troubleshooting, then "Enable advanced logging" (3) Log off/on or reboot Next, capture it in the act, and take snapshots along the way (1) Go to the Layout tab (2) Click "Save / Restore a backup" (3) Click "Save ba
Hi, this was an experimental feature that was accidentally turned on in the UI, but is not implemented. Sorry for the confusion.
Ha! No worries. Thanks for pointing out the "some icons don't highlight on mouseover". We're seeing that too and are working on a fix. The portal drag issue, we'll have to look more into that. Some of that issue we may not be able to work around – Explorer treats certain drag drops as special and doesn't place the icon right away or in a predictable manner which makes "capturing" it (without creating other problems) problematic. We do see that it does work generally, but
Ah! Something must have went wrong with link creation, sorry for that. You can give this a shot: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/byk625la4u0jqloxc1dz4/UpdatePatcher_Debug_2025_06_20__10_21_02_pm.exe?rlkey=1ycl9b5vd20fr2zig21iz9sp5&dl=1
Hi dudechester, Some progress on the "icons switch tabs" issue; we have a candidate build available for testing, if you'd like to give a shot. We'll have a full installer ready next week, but in the meantime a patcher is ready for trying out (v6.01 will be displayed in the about box) that delivers the same results at https
Hi andy, We have a candidate build available for testing, if you'd like to give a shot. This issue appears to be rare but we've heard of similar as Adam notes above. We'll have a full installer ready next week, but in the meantime a patcher is ready for trying out (v6.01 will be displayed in the about box) that delivers the same results at <a href="https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/yk2zloek6mmzeqxj8e8ws/UpdatePatcher_Debug_2025_06_13__3_23_06_pm.exe?rlkey=uez9ouhknhl3100mvbp
Hi lanruid thanks for pointing this out. This was put as a placeholder for a future feature that doesn't yet exist and should not be appearing. Looks like there was a mix-up, thanks for the heads up and apologies for the inconvenience
Hi imagexideas, please try the option "Fix desktop icon spacing" from Troubleshooting and log off / log on? Hoping that helps.
Hi klobgoblin, The "scale my Fence groups" option is obsolete and has been replaced as of Fences v5.5 (as well as in v6). We recommend using the new default option "Store my layout on a per-monitor-configuration basis". The old scaling option did not perform well when switching back and forth between different DPI, and it operated particularly poorly on multi-monitor systems. The new system was designed from the ground up to support such use cases. It's available for users of v5 (late
Hi ComputerGuy_1387, could you submit your logs for further review? Perhaps do this a few times: (1) Before removing a Fence (2) After removing a Fence (3) After rebooting when it returns You can say which of the scenarios it is in the comments when making the error package You can access this via the "About" pane of the settings, then click on the "Troubleshooting" link and then "Create error report package for technical support". There ma
We’re going to get in touch with them this week to see what we can do. It’s a false positive based on our new code signing certificate which hasn’t yet gained their trust as our previous one had.
We recently renewed our security certificate. As result, the certificate can sometimes take time to rebuild its trust level with security manufacturers. We’re looking into it further on how we can speed this up.
You will no longer receive a notification now that you've installed v6, but thank you for letting us know! Glad it helped and extra glad you enjoy the product.
Hi hharrison– we're starting to see a trend around users using solid colors and having this problem on an intermittent basis. Is the problem resolved by creating a solid-color image and setting that as your wallpaper instead? Would be helpful to know if so. https://mdigi.tools/solid-color-image-generator/
Hi wk2, great to hear! Thank you! Just for our information to make sure it's working – you should have received an in-app notification about v5.0 update last year ~March. (We haven't yet sent the notice about v6.) Wondering if you remember seeing that notice about v5.0?
