That depends on the color of the Start menu and what's behind it. Even at 25% transparency, a light/medium grey color will darken the background just enough for the white text of the menu to be easily readable. That's true even of a white background. It would be nice to have the option to disable the blur in the Modern style Start menu to match the corresponding setting for the Taskbar.
