I have repeatedly asked for the ability to custom design ships as far as weaponry and hull stength and propulsion capabilities. This was all possible on the old Galciv Gold with Shipyards that was made for the os/2 operating system. Why is this being denied to current Gal Civ users???? ~SDC~

I would like the option to build custom ships and determine the component costs, just as the os/2 version of shipyards permitted. This a serious area of weakness that should be corrected immediately. ~SDC~
You could try the trick as described in the "Stardock updating" thread. I had the same problem and the trick worked wonders for me. I think i've also seen some patch for this on the GalCiv Homepage
The "Stardock updating" thread is not shown as a choice in my Syardock Central windows, so your suggestion is of little value. ~SDC~
i would like to install the latest Stardock Central but as I download it it quits in jhe middle of installation saying there is a problem. How can I get around this?? Must I delete the previous version and do a clean install from the web site??? Any help would be appreciated. ~SDC~

Not sure if PQ directly boosts influence. Population level does, and that's closely related to PQ. And I think if your star isn't yellow, you get influence penalties.
Well I am amzed that that NONE of you discuseed the social project called the Terraformer whcih is a galactic achievement. I almost always go the cultural route until near the end of the game I go military. The Terraformer is a great extension of cultural power as you can inhab
I have been using Stardock Central for several months and am a registered Drengin.net and Gal Civ user. All of a sudden today my Central software is saying my serial number is invalid. I checked it and it is OK. I wonder if this last upgrade of Stardock Cental a couple of days ago corrupted the database?? What shoudl I do about this?? ~SDC~
Somebody posted in a message on this board that if you want to avoid a technology victory you can unceheck it during a game. I do NOT believe this, as the screen to set victoory conditions only comes up when you begin a game. If I am wrong tell me how one can access and change the victory conditions screen while the game is in progress. ~SDC~ [Message Edited]
I want the ability to custom design ships and control the cost of each technology component on custom designed ships. This capability was an add-on to the original Gal Civ made for the os/2 operating system. It is a lot of fun and gives you a nice advantage over your opponents, unless they capture one of your planents and thus are able tosteal the ship technology. It is a lot of fun. ~SDC~ [Message Edited]
I liked the os/2 Gal Civ better in one significant way. You could design a faster , more powerful ship and set the cost of its components. That is way more flexible than the present game. I do NOT understand why Brad has NOT incorporated that concept into this windows -based game. ~SDC~
os2wiz: did you hit esc from within the game or had you just started the game?
Carielf, the problem was due to an install corruption. I had installed the new code over the older beta. Once I deleted the whole program from from my drive and did a complete reinstall of the new beta, the problem disappeared. The threading between turns is awfully slow. Is that due to inclusion of debugging code????? ~SDC~
The game freezes when you hit the escape key to get to the main menu. ~SDC~
Could we please not berate the developers for staying late and trying to deliver a beta on a Friday? As addicting as it is, it's a video game, not a cure for cancer. We're trying our best to meet any dates that are actually posted, but except for the Elf, we're only human.
Look I made a humorous, sexy remark and it shot way over your head. Lighten up, I am having some fun. ~SDC~ [Message Edited]
os2wiz: January 23rd is not over yet. The beta is ready to go. I'm just waiting for Brad to be ready to move the files from the private server to the public one. For someone who has been with us for so long, I'm surprised at the lack of trust.
You now really disappoint me. I was so looking forward to giving you a spanking for not delivering the goods. ~SDC~ [Message Edited]

We've got the beta mostly put together, but we are probably going to have to wait until tomorrow to make it publicly available.
It is the next day: January 23rd and you did NOT release the beta. At least somebody should post an update as to why the delay. ~SDC~

Well first the candidate must prostitute himself to the insurance and banking industries. There isn't a member of Congress not on the take from those 2 biggies. ~SDC~
I certainly expect the Altarian prophecy release to be included at NO additional expense as part of my Drengin.net subcription. That certainly was part of the deal when I subscribed. That all enhancments to Gal Civ would be included in the price. Explain to me if I am misunderstanding something here. ~SDC~
The thread where she describes the "fix" is here: Link . And I definately would call it a hack, since it just changes the tech IDs to dance around the defect rather than fixing it. It's a Stardock-approved hack, though.
The fix as was described , was downloaded and applied as directed. I still can't load a saved game. So how is that making the game useable???? ~SDC~
And I hate to say it but if retail is the only mechanism in which PC games can sell, then either this situation at retail will have to get fixed, or we'll have to find our own way to do things at retail or we'll just not do more games and focus on our non-game software which does just fine without being at retail.
Why can't you place direct marketing ads on gaming web sites and in gaming magazines and forget about the stores and the middlemen????? ~SDC~
I have played 7 games with 1.13 and with CariElf/LM's patch i haven't seen any problems (invisible ships big, but its been there forever and to me its no biggy).
Where do I obtain the mini-patch???? I will only uses a patch that Stardock recommends, not any hacker's patch. ~SDC~
The save games feature does NOT work for Altarian Prophecy. You get kicked out of the game when trying to load a game. You also get kicked oput when checking foreign relations with either minor civilizations aor relations with major ones. ~SDC~
Guy. I am NOT stupid. I have been playing this game since day one. I am well aware of archives. I am getting the same list for archives as for technologies to be developed. It is a BUG!! Do you NOW believe me? After all this is beta software. Another bug is the game kicks out if you tey use foreign relations to acess minor worlds or major ones. ~SDC~
I had a serious technology bug after the lates incremental upgrade . It shows all tecnologies as being undeveloped even though I have earned almost all of them and have several Excalibur-class ships. ~SDC~
It kicks you out of the game when you try to load a saved game or a timed save. I had hoped it would allow users to design their own ships as the os/2 version of Gal Civ did with the shipyards add-on module. ~SDC~
You have an idea with merit, but I do NOT think that Brad will try it. I don't think he believes there are sufficient os/2 users to cover the development cost for this idea. I mean sufficent os/2 users willing to pay Stardock for the upgrades. I certainly would. ~SDC~
