[quote who="Nick-Danger" reply="125" id="2762761"] I think it's necessary to clarify the "...nature of software..." bit. Consider a company that produces software for a mid-sized bank or a company like Target (software for financial records, tracking stock, online sales, etc.). How would customers of said software react should the software be released in a condition similar to Elemental's? For whatever reason, customers of computer games generally accept a 'quality'

Turning on MP is not going to break the SP, so why not enable it? At worst they're spending time on MP fixes instead of SP stuff, but it needs to be fixed eventually. Delaying turning on MP until SP is solid would almost be like making MP a future expansion. It sounded like the devs weren't as happy with how MP played and didn't want connectivity issues to mess with launch day. Hey, they were wrong about SP being ready for launch so maybe they were wrong about MP and

What this article means is that if someone did something without knowing it was wrong, they are not punished for it. If this boy had never even heard of Christianity by the time he died, I think he's excused. I think he would be in Limbo/Purgatory with the opportunity to move on to Heaven. Satan is present all around us. Any time you've been tempted to do the wrong thing (and don't tell me you haven't) Satan was t

Some of those ASROCK dual boards are an interesting choice. There are some that support AGP 8x and PCIe x16 for video, DDR2 or DDR for memory, SATA or IDE for hard drive, and socket LGA 775 for Core 2 Duo, Pentium D, P4, and Celeron processors. This could let you use your old stuff and let you progressively upgrade components later. Sometimes is better to just upgrade the whole thing. I've got this: Athlon XP 512MB DDR 160GB IDE FX5200 AGP When I upgrade

Well this thread has spiraled out of control No one here knows for a "fact" what is going to happen when they die. Whether it is Heaven or Hell, or ceasing to exist. You won't know until your dead so we shouldn't spend our lives worrying about it, or trying to convince other people to believe what we believe. I hate it when people judge others based on their beliefs. God is the only one (in

I have no problem paying for upgrades. I make my money building software myself. I'm just stating I'm surprised at the pricing model. Usually expansions are sold at a lower price then the original software. $29.95 for DL and $19.95 for DA would have been more sense (or maybe higher price on the Gold) if StarDock really did value those that bought early. The "original software" was $44.95 when it was released. It sounds like you would be okay with it if

I had to keep adjusting the sliders all the time with GC1. Kept worrying about each planet and where the production is going. As in there's a planet that needs to build social projects so you crank up that category. But others planets aren't building any social projects so those resources are lost. I would go in there and have planets build things I didn't need just because it was being spent anyways. I prefer the GC2 in that regard. The colony management screen is great to see what's goin

Hmmm.... I bought DL for $44.95 last year. I still play it on and off (don't regret buying it). That said, I just heard about DA through a review. I came to check it out, but I'm rather disappointed to see the pricing model for this (gold same price I paid a year ago, DA more expensive than DL). Since you already have DL, it's only $29.95 to get the DA upgrade. The gold is $44.95 and it gives you both DA and DL. Right now DL costs $19.95 by itself. Th

I especially have a problem with the super dominator corvettes to the point I don't put the drengin in the game to eliminate the problem. You can turn off the super abilities so you can put the Drengin back in. I never liked the super dominator from the first beta game I played. Everyone hated the Drengin so they were at war with everyone. Each time they declared war they get more corvettes. It grew exponentially until they had hundreds of corvettes.

Suffice to say, there are a lot of forces that have an effect on who we are. How would augmenting our children be any different? That's the point I was trying to subtly make. What's the really all that different from manipulating genes to make a child smarter before birth, than having your child be very focused on education? They're both parents deciding how their child should turn out. Deciding when your child is 2 that they are a great singer and yo

Hehe... it's been so long since I played GC1 that I don't remember it well. I do agree the tech tree is more streamlined for GC2. But to me it doesn't matter since I pretty research the same general sequence in both games. The added strategy in GC2 for multiple weapons types is good. GC1 limited you to building Defenders/Battle Hammers to defend and attacking with Frigates/Battleships/Rangers (basic quantity vs. quality questions). The only variety was bonuses for speed/attack/defense. Als

the debug.err file is in the main GalCiv2 install directory. I forget if it always makes one every time you run or if it only happens on error. But you should have one. AMD Athlon 64 3800+ is a 2.4 GHz single core processor You haven't given any details on your graphics card and what settings you use in-game graphics wize (high resolution, AA, etc can cause slow downs at end game even on small maps). The debug.err includes some of this info.

I differ with my parents on so many points, I'd be miserable if I was "engineered" to become their idea of correct. Umm... how do you know that you wouldn't be "engineered" to be not miserable? Haha... nice one So if you had the chance to engineer your next (or first) child, then how would you make he or she turn out?

Sure God could of made us with perfect senses. To know everything about the universe, without any chance of error, or any required effort on our part. But God didn't make us that way. The reason is, if God did make us that way, it would mean that those who did not deserve it, would know as much about universe as those who did deserve it. Our flaws were not given to us to make us suffer, but to serve as a filter between those deserve, and those who do not. <br

If starts to become more common place, then eventually it can get out of control. We have a baby on the way and they asked if we wanted to test for a list of common diseases. I wouldn't be surprised if in the near future they give you a list of things they can prevent with genetic manipulation. Why risk your child getting a serious disease if you can prevent? Vaccines and medications have risks but we still take them. If it's safe, then everyone would do it. After that it would only grow o

You have to make sure you're comparing the same thing. As long as the dual core and single core CPU you're comparing are of the same architecture, then the dual 1.8 GHz won't give you single 3.6 GHz performance. But a better designed and more efficient dual core may blow away an older architecture single core of twice the clock rate. An example is that (dual core Netburst) Pentium D 3.6 GHz and (single core Netburst) Pentium 4 3.8 GHz have the same performance in some applications, so

St. Blastius. I don't understand somethig in those charts. I'd heard the Core2 duo was supposed to outperform AMD's offerings by a bunch... but it doesn't look like it from those benchmarks (AMD caught up?). Or is the core2 duo the best price/performer? The high end AMD FX parts outperform the low end Core 2 Duo parts, but they cost $1000. The fastest AMD X2 parts like 5600+ (2.8 Ghz) match up with a E63

I like to use Tom's Hardware site which has charts for comparisons between CPUs, Video Cards, Hard Drives, etc. Here's the link to the CPU chart: http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu.html?modelx=33&model1=433&model2=453&chart=174 From that you can tell that a Core 2 Duo E6400 does better or equal on all of the various tests to all P4's including expensive EE versions. But it varies depending on application, but dual core only gets better as more things support it.

I saw something similar in one of my games. I purchased a transport on a planet and then in the same turn I switched it to build a constructor. It then showed constructor with 0 weeks left. After hitting turn, the transport was built and it started making the constructor. This made sense to me when I saw it. So your case you cannot purchase and then obsolete the design in the same turn. No ship is built and then you cannot switch to anything else

I have the same problem. The serial number that I got in my preorder email and the one from the Stardock request email both say Error 12. I preordered my with TG.net tokens, but I was able to preload the files.

You have to download the Collectors edition goodies from the website on the Dowloads tab. When I enter my serial #, it says its not a valid collector's edition #. And my email on ordering it from TG.net says... Product Name : Galactic Civilizations II (Pre-Order).

I preordered GalCiv2 on TG.net using tokens. Does that mean I will also get the collector edition goodies to download? Or does that fall under that option of $20 to upgrade to the collectors edition (which I think means mailing us the box too)? I thought the $20 upgrade was for people who were on Drengin.net (yearly subscription) when it transtioned to tokens.
