Generally I am fighting two races in two systems simultaneously, two "choke points". Even with every weapons technology, both offensive and defensive researched, a full complement of level 10 dreadnoughts split across the two systems and fully optioned starbase in each, I lose in a war of attrition. Clearly I haven't enough civil resources to fight two battles simultaneously, non stop for over an hour even though every star system I control has trade unit either separate or in

I struggle in small, managed to win once in medium, get my ass kicked in large. Examples Have world with 5 levels of social specialisation and 4 broadcast units in space. Has 3 spacelanes, 2 are mine, one goes to comet. Both my border worlds have max social and at least 3 broadcast units. Enemy culture creeps through comet system to my world and it turns. So, I try to take the comet system, but it is full of ships. I have class 10 Titan, 5 class

Salvage seems to be a useless attribute beyond the early part of the game. Repair of Titan class spaceships seems to literally take hundreds of turns. I have literally captured a ship, parked it in orbit, sued for peace, had the peace expire and had the ship destroyed when they launched the next attack, all before the ship was half repaired. Is this the result of some game play "balancing" as I remember ships used to self repair reasonably quickly

Nope, never had an "ally" respond to a declaration of war on me ever. It basically seems to do nothing other than act as a way to win by allying everyone. From a strategic viewpoint, no purpose at all.

After initial install it took a long long long time for the game to start but it did eventually. After that fine. But that isn't the waiting forever. Playing the game for awhile and then the turn button just stays on wait. Everything works ok, I can do diplomacy, give orders etc etc, I just can't progress. I have clicked on every ship, planet, starbase looking for some idle function but cant find anything. Saved the game, exited and re-loaded, still stu

Seems like the crash may not be due to Titanium research. If I switch research at the last autosave, it still crashes on the next move. Memory leak?

I cannot research the Titanium specialisation until every other tech in the branch is done. When I do finally research it, the game crashes out.

Ok, I finally worked out that I have to give everyone something to do before I get a turn button. Now I have the problem of a colony with all buildable tiles occupied without a starport. Since it can't build anything, I can't stop it being idle. Since I have an idle colony, I have no means of accessing the turn button, gameplay is stopped.

Many people are just going to want to jump in and play the game. I could not figure out how to end my turn. I managed to close the bottom control panel with no idea how to re-open it.

Pirates are still ridiculously powerful and have been for a few versions of the game now. Just started a new game in the latest version. Got distracted in the middle of a battle and lost the bidding war for pirate raids. My 2 capital ships (L4 + L3 it is still early in the game) easily defeat other player's fleets but when responding to the pirate raid, were annihilated in less than a minute. I have found in past versions that jumping them into any system with pira

First I obliterated the pirates world using Novalith canon. Apparently it is irrelevant to the pirates anyway as they continued as usual. I attacked pirate base with level 10 Tian and 10 x Level 10 Dreadnoughts plus a few frigates of each type and as many Percheron carriers as I could do with a big fleet. Battle lasted under a minute before my fleet was obliterated. After battle, there were: 488 x Corsaires 761 x Pirate Rog

Actually I have all 3 versions of the game now. The"last time I played with pirates" was Dip. I actually started out with Gal Civ on OS/2 way way back. Given the troubles I had with Impulse, I basically abandonded SOSE for a long long time.

Oh sorry, should have added that you CAN at least download the whole game from here: http://anywhere.impulsedriven.com/Default.aspx # I have suggested before that given the large numbers of people who cannot get Impulse to do what it is supposed to, they should post this address in prominent letters atop each Impulse forum.
To get rid of pirates, just destroy their base, or keep the bounty on other players higher than it is on yours (the Advent Persuasive Offers tech helps with that). I like to mess with AIs in my custom maps by having their stars where the only GWs besides their homeworld are pirate bases (and I don't have to worry about them increasing the bounty on me, because for some reason AIs don't put bounties on anyone they haven't met
&n
